OB Classic vs OB Classic Pro feel

I'm looking for input from those who have shot with both the OB Classic and OB Classic Pro. Which shaft has the stiffer feel?

I know the Classic is 1 mm thicker, but the Classic Pro has a conical taper. My experience with the OB-1 and OB-2 was that even though the OB-1 was 1mm thicker, the OB-2 was a stiffer feel due to the taper. Is this still the case with the Classic & Classic Pro? Thanks for the input.

I have every OB shaft style available and my preference is the Classic Pro. I love the taper and the feel is what I like. It is a solid hit. It is not as stiff as the OB2.

I prefer OB's classic pro myself with Jacoby's LD a close second. It has a stiff feel and a more solid hit which I prefer.

My 2 cents.

I have had every shaft Royce has made and I have to say the OB classic pro has been my favorite shaft of all. I use it now on my satin soutwest and the feel is incredible. I briefly played with the classic and I loved the feel, but just wasnt use to the thicker shaft any more. I think the feel of the 2 shafts are very close in my personal opinion. I think they both have a stiffer more crisper hit than any of the other OB shafts. I think because of the stiffer hit, the deflection is just a tad bit more, but it was barely noticeable. Good luck with your decision, you cant go wrong with either shaft in my humble opinion.

They're both plenty stiff, but I would say the Classic is stiffer. The Classic's I had measured thicker in the taper area than a 314. It only takes a small difference in the taper to really stiffen up a 12.75 mm shaft.

I wouldn't make the decision based solely on that. If you haven't played much with a Predator "Z" type of shaft or OB2, you should be making the decision based on other factors, like tip size, feel of the taper, and amount of squirt. If you're currently playing with a 13mm tip, the Pro will take some getting used to.

I've shot with both and I do think the Classic is a bit stiffer than the Pro. I ordered a Classic Pro in hopes that it would be even more amazing than the Classic and the Predator Z2 but this didn't turn out to be the case for me. Others that I know that use the Classic Pro seem to like it quite a bit. I'm playing with a 314 2 now and really loving it.

I still think the OB Classic is a fantastic shaft and love it the way it feels.

My 2 cents.

Here is my $.02
I really liked the OB Classic pro how it crisp it felt and the ld properties.
Much beter than the OB Classic on the ld end.
My problem is that I don't like shafts under 12.5mm.
Tried the OB Classic as well and liked it.
Still a very good solid crip feel.
I would have bought one if I did not run into a deal for another LD shaft that I am using (jacoby).

If you like the smaller shafts I would pick up the Classic Pro and never look back.

Great responses so far. The shafts I currently use are just under 12.5mm, so there will be some adjustment regardless of whether I pick the Classic or Pro. That is why I'm mostly concerned with how stiff each shaft plays. Thanks for the input.

There's a huge difference betwwen a 12.5 shaft and the 11.75, not just the tip size. The typical pro taper is quite a bit different from the modified taper used on the 11.75 mm shafts out there.

It can take a couple of months, or even longer, to fully adapt to the "Z" style tapers. Once you do adapt, that's when you find out if your game benefitted.

I now play with a Tiger Pro X 11.75 mm and am glad I made the switch, but it took a lot of time to adapt from my 12.75 mm taper. I find myself staying closer to the center of the cue ball but still getting the spin I need with a little better fine control of the cue ball.

I have not tried the Classic but I do play with the Classic pro. All I can say is wow! Got it in a trade and I can't imagine playing with another shaft. To me it feels like a good maple shaft but with all the properties of the best in any LD shaft. My draw and follow have improved a lot and amazingly enough so has my accuracy. Which I thought would have dropped due to the smaller tip. I seriously don't even want to try another shaft I like it so much.

+1 (recognizing that I'm late to the discussion... you have probably already made your decision. hope it was everything you hoped for.)

another player's "feel" is too subjective for me to make a confident decision.

you should email/call someone at OB. if he's free to talk, Royce can describe the engineering differences to help you make an educated decision for your next shaft. OB can probably even build one to your specification.

(i own an OB2 and a classic pro. they are interchangeable to me, but i typically play with the classic pro.)

great shafts

i carry both in stock for my customers and have put both on my merry widow cues. i think the 12.5 mm is a great playing shaft, but the 11.7 feels like a toothpick to me.

i had my ob classic made to 30 inches and had its tip dia made to 12.5. I have a onyx tip on it, very nice hit. I think finding a specific tip you like is very important in the type of hit you like! don't be afraid to spend top dollar on tip and installation.
