OB Cues?

I loved their cues and shafts. I still have a lot of shafts, but sold the OB cue I had with 3/8-10 joint. That cue dated back to before the new people and DP had anything to do with OB. I also have one of the Fusion shafts that had the CF insert, and I still play with a couple of them about once a month since I just recently retired.

IMO, they were my favorite LD shaft and cue maker, but with them being out of business, I don’t think I will buy anymore new or used. It’s too bad.

ive had a few OB cues over the years and pretty much every shaft they made.

Theyre good cues. They were reasonably priced for what they were. The shafts are as good as the predator lineup in terms of performance and deflection but the maple ferrules were ugly and not very durable and had a lot of issues that turned people off.

Maple ferrules were on ob1&2 After then came classics. One SBE i bought an ob shaft. The following year I went back to the ob booth and told Royce about some micro splinters in the laminations. He gave me another shaft and told me to keep the old one

I got to shoot today with my original OB shaft after years of not touching it.
No way close to the 314-2 in terms of deflection performance.

No, that's physics. simple test shots will prove it.
For some reason I remembered the OB and the 314 playing very similar but after last night I can assure that they don't.
Well ive never played with a 314, but I have a Z3 and an OB pro+ and the play pretty much identical, YMMV

I would say OBs have a better hit than McDermott and Predator (owned all 3, including a 6 point OB with the OB Pro+ plus a Roadline LE 3 and a P704). My current Carmeli player is definitely in a different league given its balance and hit. Also have a Jim Pierce that I like. Additionally, out of all the LD shafts I've tried over the last 15 years or so (more than 10), I've always gone back to my factory maple that came with my cues, so the OB / Pro+ combo was sold. Only LD shaft in my 3x7 playing bag is a 12.5mm 3.8oz Dominiak Kielwood with a thread insert that runs a little on the tight side.

I would agree with this if it was an OB-1. The OB-1 was a bit higher deflection than the 314 shafts I had at the time. I kept the pre-cat and 314-2 out of the bunch.

Don Owen, the “O” in OB Cues and founder was a very good friend of mine. He has passed.

One time he and his wife were visiting, and he insisted on giving me 2 shafts, I believe the first two types they made. Sought after, but I don’t like low def shafts. He took my Searing, sent it to Dennis who made matching rings to my cue.
A short time later my cue was stolen, long story, but I still have both unplayed shafts.

I will sell the pair. Not sure what they’re worth. Going to sell.
Ideas?

Yes, I have the original first generation OB shaft.
I bought it right when it came out. It warped very quickly and Royce sent me a new one.
Great service. But I prefer the 314-2 shaft better.
