OB Goes Full Carbon

i have gone to the website several times and they are on backorder

i tried ohhhh probably 6 diff OB cues when i went do the commentary for the archer vs hogue match last week.

Jeremy showed me their interchangeable joint which i thought was very savvy and well executed!

All the set ups had very similar feel to play among one another. I shot with shafts ranging from 11.75 to i believe 12.8mm. i even tried 2 of their torrified wooden shafts, one was lightly toasted and the other chocolate brown which was the curly.....the curly especially was very pretty....both played well and had nice spine.

Overall tried 4 different wooden shafts and 2 diff carbon shafts if memory serves correct, they all played well. Their carbon def has a more wooden like tone and sounds nothing like the hollow revo tone.

All their cues and shaft setups i tried were different of course than what my own players shoot and feel like that i built in the past for myself, there of course would be a little adjustment for me if i were to switch to their equipment which isn't a good or bad thing, that is just what it is.....there's always adjustment when switching to another brand or style of cue.

They played well and are making a great product from my personal experience handling them.

Well made in America, made per order from what jeremy told me and executed very well.

I would really like companies like this to start using more american hardwoods, especially what i consider to be the exotic american hardwoods like honey locust, black locust, southern live oak, osage orange just to name a few.

best wishes,
Greyghost

I don't want to create a new thread, but OB are hard to get in touch with probably due to shortage of staff which I understand due to the current pandemic the world is facing.

So I ask here better, I want to try their new shaft but my question is mainly about the joint diameter, if I order pheonix kielwood shaft from their site, what size of joint diameter does it come as default? My butt is 0.840 and dont want the shaft to be sticking out as I read in reddit they come in 0.850?? do they or not, cause the guy who said this isn't reliable info in my opinion.

They make both .840 and .850, depending on the joint type. Here's what OB says..

Available in 2 joint diameters .840in fits most standard 3/8 x 10 Thread cues - .850in fits most standard Mcdermott cue joint diameters

I own six OB CLASSIC shafts for three cues. I am disappointed the company has spun in so many different directions. OB educated the public on multiple piece shaft technology (only to go back to one piece wood and epoxy filled shafts?) Then there is the LD internal package (from the new vague shaft description it's hard to tell what OB is offering??).

Then OB switched to Torrified (WHAT TECHNOLOGIES ARE IN THAT SHAFT? (LD or what?). If I am reading correctly OB has kept their hybrid taper (which I like).

So then there is the OB carbon shaft (why would someone try this shaft (over a known stable brand.) Normally when a product is engineered well only small changes are made to improve the existing line (that's true with pool shafts, cars, boats, guns... You name it.

I am rooting for OB cues being that they are an American company, but I will no longer invest until OB becomes a proven commodity again. My two cents

thanks for the reply, my custom is 0.840 at the joint and is also 3/8x10 so thats a relief I guess if what you say is accurate.

But also isnt mcdermott a 3/8x10 joint too? so how are they 0.850 ob shafts made? thats strange.

btw the torrified pheonix shaft is really good you have got to give that a try for yourself to attest to it, I come from mezz hybrid pro II and I really like it, stiff and nice hitting, I tried it on someone's cue and now i am ordering one for me.

What LD package is in the shaft? Ferule technology, hollow shaft dampening ect. OB explained the older product s better.

I usually don't get into details in engineering technology cause I am the user, I might ask about sizes of the outside that I care of, but the inner stuff is something for the engineers to think about, then I as a user if I like the hit and how it feels and if it deflects lower than usual then I am a happy user, that's it.

It's same as cars, I don't get inside the engine and how it was built precisely, I might just care about horsepower and some outter detail, but the inner stuff is for the engineers, its the same approach that I use while buying things mainly.

Now, you might be an engineer yourself and this stuff might interest you and this is 100% not wrong, you have the right to ask whatever you want, if that's the case then I'd say email them :D, maybe the inner stuff and technology interest you and you want to know that's fine.
