Is it possible to order an OB shaft with a aegis or ivorine ferrule or is that maple stacked ferrule all they put on? What is the advantage to their wooden ferrule?

I would imagine it's because wood is lighter than most standard ferrule materials, making it deflect/swerve the cueball even less.
I've seen it done. I think a member here has pics of their OB-1 converted with stag ferrules. If it's for a look, than I'd say go for it. But if it's for the hit, I'd suggest you shoot with an OB-2 before you pay for something you may not like.

The stacked maple ferrule on all of our cue shafts does serve a distinct purpose, and that is reduced tip end mass. The Maple is much lighter than any of the typical materials.
Also, keep in mind that if you were to just replace the maple with plastic, in the same dimensions, not only would it add back some of the squirt or deflection, but it most likely would not last. The plastics would almost certainly split or crack due to the material being too thin.
We realize that the look is different, but we feel that the benefits are more than worth getting used to the different look. Most of our customers tell us that they really get used to it very quickly and just forget about it. When you are down on the shot, the ferrule just blends right in with the rest of the cue shaft, so you don't really see it.

theres more then just the ferrule involved.
if you dont like the looks you should just buy a tiger ultra x or 314.

so what is the difference between the ob1 and ob2 shafts? Is it similar to the predator 314 and z?
if they are all about the same, Id just assume buy the American made one 
. Im not starting any arguments here, i just prefer to take care of my own if at all possible. Im not sure if I want a LD shaft, I just got this old Schon, and I am gonna play with it for a while and see what its like. I can already tell the Schon's shaft is stiffer than my old Viking, so Im not sure if I really need one, just curious.

i think you should think about how the balance will change if you switch shafts. i'm guessing that the ld weigh less
The OB-2 has a different taper and tip diameter. It still hits super solid and imparts English well even with a light stroke. I compared and liked both. As for the maple ferrule, I never noticed it was there...too busy pocketing balls.:grin:
I'd used pre-cat 314's (best Predator ever) for years. Took a while to dive entirely over to the OB1, but now that's all I use. You definitely get better spin velocity for less work, and with less deflection, than any Predator shaft I ever tried - and that includes the 314-2 and the Z2. Also I like the softer, very intimate, feel that the OB1/Everest tip combo provides. The look of the ferrule disappears very shortly, and you're left with an extremely high level playing shaft.
Well I guess white-out is an option,lol. How do these compare to the McDermott Intimidator shafts? I have heard those are very good also.

IMO I guess it depends on the personal style of the shooter in question.
I have tried and used both and found for me the OB-1 wins hands down no contest...not even close. What I found was the Mcdermott shaft played more like a traditional Maple shaft. The Ob-1 moves the cue ball easier and applies spin with little effort. I was not impressed with the Mcdermott but was very surprised at how easy the Ob-1 was to get used to.

the OB2 while being a smaller diameter has a bit firmer feel than the OB1. I think it plays GREAT. I'm not a fan of the DONK sound and really stiff feeling shafts. To me they seem to lack feedback, but to each their own. Best thing you can do is try it to see if you like it. My opinion is they are the best of both worlds...high tech, low deflection without the loss of feel!!!
BTW, I've never tried a shaft diameter under 12.5mm (including Z2), but the OB2 was not awkward feeling, size wise, at all; which was a very pleasant surprise!

thanks for the info fellas, If I go with a LD shaft, I guess Ill try the OB. not sure yet if it would be an OB 1 or 2 though. If I get one, I will surely let you know. thanks again.
I'll tell you this... If you're going from conventional shafts of "average" diameter, I'd suggest trying & getting used to an OB1 first. You'll get a lot more spin velocity with less effort. If you go to an 11.75mm shaft, not only will you be adapting to a more active shaft, but you'll be seeing the demands associated with a thinner shaft - where tip position inaccuracies are exaggerated.
