OB1 shaft users?

Hey OB1 users,

On my OB1 shaft I have a carbon disc between the tip and the wood ferulle. Does anyone know will I improve the performance by removing the disc? And attach the tip directly to the wood ferulle?

I have heard less mass at the ferulle may give you less deflection, maybe by removing the carbon disc we can acheive similar deflection to the Z shaft.

BTW, I never use this shaft for breaking...

You will void all warranty with the removal of the disc and you won't be able to tell any difference anyway the weight of the disc is minute.

Also the disc aids in protecting the wood ferrule along with the balsa wood tendon when changing tips. You are asking for trouble removing the disc.

I would suggest contacting Royce at OB Cues and I would guess his answer will be the same as those given in post 2 and 3 of this thread.....but I would still go to the horses mouth.

The disk is tough material, the wood underneath it is not. Its purpose appears to be no more than to protect. Its carbon fiber, so its very light and strong. Wood gives way after being struck repeatedly, synthetics are designed to take a beating.

Saw an OB shaft tonight that I belongs to my home hall owner and he had just had his shaft retipped. It might be the second or third time- don't know, but I had to look close to see the disk. I have two that I plan on playing with for a long time.

My question: has anyone ever sent the shaft back to Royce to replace the disk?

Have your cue guy just graze the disc, it will last years. It could be replaced by a plastic or fibre disc, the difference in weight won't make any difference. Its not rocket science.

royce told me he sells the discs for really cheap, like $1 or something, so if it ever wears out, just bring it to your tip guy next time he does your tip.
