OB1 Warranty this??? Ferrule broken

I break with an OB shaft (as do a lot of people in Dallas). I may not be the hardest breaker, but I get a little bit behind it and have never had a problem with the ferrule. I think as long as you keep enough sidewall on the tip and make sure the carbon fiber disc is in place, it shouldn't be a problem.

As a matter of fact, though Royce doesn't really advertise it, he is making an OB "break" shaft; it is basically just the standard OB taper with a proprietary break tip. It really does work well.

No I rarely break with the OB1 but if I do break I break medium hit.

Royce ... I was speaking to Wayne fron Cuekote the other day and asked him for a couple of the Carbonfiber pads so I could do some tip experimenting.. he said that to just trim the tip down adn sand to the pad would be OK... Is that true that sanding disk on the pad will not cut into it?? if not I need to order some pads... HOW??

I got the package yesterday around 3:45pm and played with it all night and just got home... Its wonderful. Thanks Royce and I will be waiting for the next shipment.

I am sending some to Wayne, so if you need one, give him a call. However, you really don't have to replace them very often if you just treat the pad like it was the end of the ferrule on a conventional cue. The pad is a disc of carbon fiber. You could sand on it for quite a while and would not remove any appreciable amount of material.


The recommended method for replacing tips is as follows:

Cut off the old tip with a knife, leaving the carbon fiber disc in place.

Trim off the remaining tip material and glue down to the pad. This can be done on a lathe with a tool post mounted cutter, or with a top sander if doing it by hand. On a lathe just trim down close to the pad, and then hold a razor blade horizontal with the edge scraping against the end of the shaft while it is spinning. This will scrape off the remaining glue and give a nice flat surface.

Sand the top of the carbon fiber pad

Install the tip just like any other shaft, and trim it out.


I have replaced dozens of tips on the same shaft using this method and have not had to replace the carbon fiber pad yet.

The best way to get ahold of Royce is to probably call: (877)399-9901. You must be hitting 'em like king kong or something to mushroom two ferrules! :) I have a playing shaft and a break shaft that have never had any problems.
 
yea but thats weird. I hear people on the board break with the OB1. I believe Charles is at Viking Tour at Richardson, Tx
