This is a hard shot. It's best to shoot slightly away from the cushion with inside english, i.e., sidespin that causes the cueball to swerve back toward the cushion.

It's a tough shot

Perhaps the highest percentage way to make the shot is to elevate the butt of you cue a bit and shoot with inside English. Shoot the cue ball slightly away from the rail and let the semi-masse English bring the cue ball back to the rail as it meets the object ball. Trying to slow roll that shot almost never works.

As stated, inside inglish. Personally I use a touch of low inside, the c/b will follow the rail gutter/track. The slight masse effect helps keep it there. Any outside will deflect the c/b into the cushion and away from your target line. As always where you hit the c/b and speed is very important. It's a feel shot and can be made fairly easy at any distance.

The reason BTW is that the edge of the cushion is a bit higher than the equator of the ball and thus if froze the ball is sitting slightly "under" the cushion. Because a perfectly level stroke is not possible, the cb initially "hops" slightly when struck and the "overhanging" cushion deflects it away from the rail.

If you have a short jump cue or have room to get your normal cue level with the bed, you should be able to make it using outside english too. In fact, I think you can make it using any spin as long as the cue is level, which pretty much rules out draw. And you don't want to follow it into the pocket, which also rules out a lot of topspin.

yes thats exact same way i have this shot set up with side pocket in the way ,i wonderd for a while if it was me or it was just a tough shot but thanxz ill go and practice this shot i have a feeling it will sho up soon

thx for the reply's :) i learned a new shot :o

im pritty sure u have a straight stroke, 2 tables lengts straight shots, the cb ends 95% of the time at the exact same place it started, but i can HARDLY make the shot... never knew why, now i know :D thx guys

When you miss, does the object ball do something like this? (This is a little exaggerated)

By the way, if you can pocket this with oustide english as said above, you got my respect!

One of the guys at the pool hall two or three weeks ago taught me this shot... made me shoot it over and over for about 15 minutes... afterwards I was getting it... it was middle inside english, with medium speed.

hug the rail

Don't use low.

What? who said don't use low? low ( not draw) inside ( the side closest to the rail) . Cue may drift a little from rail but english will bring it back. This works passed the side pocket as well.

I said it...Let me clarify: Low side is different than just low, as low side, jacked up a little, creates a curve away from the rail and then (hopefully) back to it. Using just low will make the equator of the cb hit the rail and go off its path. Maybe you can do it, but I've found that low doesn't work so well on these shots.

Thanks for your post,

This shot is also possible if you must jump a ball. Imagine 3 balls frozen to the rail and having to jump the middle one and then pocket the object ball.
Our own Onepocketchump showed me the jump shot version. Jump aiming slightly away from the rail with inside english. Really sweet when you hit this one good. I've seen people watch me make that shot...then they go try it (not knowing how) and can't even make contact with the object ball.:D

Hey Hal...
Have you seen the guy in the Kamui video that does the shot & draws it warp speed straight back length of the table and scatches?
Nice front loading washer & dryer too...:D

well i still cant make this shot!! lol ive made a few more times but it happens so quick i cant see wat im doing ,i am shooting with a 6$ cue lol i havent used my better cue cuz i just had the tip put on but today im gonna work on that, ive also noticed that i make it across middle pocket or corner , i guss if i cant make it straight im gonna bank it across middle...

In the original post, no mention was made of a side pocket.
