I have a small painting company that only does move-out move-in type make ready painting for rental property owners and I also work full time taking care of a small string of self-serve car washes. Did you know that a lot of people mistake self-serve car washes for the dump?

Yup. I owned a car wash briefly and I have had enough cleaning deer guts, horse manure, and baby diapers out of car wash bays to last me forever. Or getting up on a sixteen foot ladder in the middle of winter to fix a busted line is always fun. Or when jerkoffs steal the guns because they think it will fit on their home pressure washer - (it won't). I sat there one time and watched a guy pull his semi into the bay just barely scraping the assembly. When he was ready to go he pulls forward and snags it. Stops, looks out pulls forward a little more, hears the scraping, stops looks and then just pulls out and rips my hose off at the top.

I was dumbfounded - and then he acted like I damaged his truck. I guess the clearance height I had posted on the bay coupled with the loud scraping as he tried to pull out forward weren't enough to WARN him.

All in all the car wash was fairly low maintenance comparatively but it's a sorry job. My sympathies buddy.

Come check out the Huey P. Long Bridge over the Mississippi River (in New Orleans, LA). In addition to VERY narrow lanes, TRAINS also pass over the river along-side the regular motor vehicle traffic. If that isn't enough, the bridge is kind of long in the tooth and is constantly being repainted. How much sandblasting can a steel bridge be subjected to before the steel is compromised?

Someone once told me that the Huey P. Long Bridge is the only motor vehicle bridge in the U.S. that also has a train trestle carrying trains across the Mississippi River. Just wondered if that was true. it ounds a bit odd.

No need for poker or a high stakes pool game adrenalin rush, just take a ride across the Huey P. Long bridge where bridge travelers will pass 18 wheelers on the very narrow bridge as if they are trying to imitate driving a Bugatti Veyron.

I was 7 years old in 1955 when my sadistic parents first took me across that damned bridge, Joey. I've been scared of it ever since. I did get over my fear a couple of times in the late 60s when I was so stoned I almost enjoyed crossing it.

The new bridge they built after the Destrahan-Luling ferry disaster scares me too. The arch on that bridge looks like the arch in St. Louis, it is so high. No, I am not partial to being that high, on the natural.
