October 17, 2015, Ronnie O' Sullivan Does It Again

It was an expedition type of show, people in that club had one game against Ronnie, it wasn't even a match, and they wanted to have fun and shoot at something against him, that is all, it's not a competition or real tournament or anything.

Furthermore, anyone asking such questions is likely to be in for an enormous shock the first time they pick up a snooker cue.

Flyers!

I've played snooker plenty of times, just not in the UK and not against Ronnie.

When U.S. pro's play exhibition matches, the opponents typically try and play to win, not roll over and shoot crazy just to watch somebody run out.

The intelligence levels of some people around here is astonishing. Anyway...

Pool is slow because players are selfish, with monster egos. This is true at all talent levels. Even the most mediocre of league player will do all they can to strangle the joy out of the game.

You are still way ahead in the TROLL OF THE YEAR voting.

Ronnie was about 20 points into a break once, asked the ref if there was a prize for a 147 and then proceeded to run one.

My favorite Ronnie moment for sure

That was awesome. It was a match against Mark King and Ronnie stopped play after 1 red and 1 black demanding to know what a maximum paid.

Question for the snooker players, why does this club chap he's playing against take those flyer shots??

Even I know from watching many snooker matches that you don't even attempt those, you play safe like Ronnie does, then wait for a higher % shot...that's why it's called "snooker". Did that chap just suck? Is that how average club players shoot?

The first shot may have been ill advised, though he couldn't play safe off the pack as he was snookered on the main bunch. There are few safeties he could have played off that red, but I think he was trying to take his chances as they came and get scoring opportunities.

The second red was the right shot I think, snooker players practice that quite a bit and it would have left him on the black for a nice scoring opportunity. It was of course risky, but he may have been thinking that he'd have to take his chances as Ronnie isn't likely to miss something silly leave it over the pocket for him.

I think the guy is likely trying to win. What amateur wouldn't want to say they took a frame off Ronnie?

Thank you for a great answer Cameron, that makes complete sense to me. I was curious and maybe the guy normally makes that shot but the pressure of Ronnie looking was too much.

No problem! Yes he did look a touch tentative which would be understandable playing against any top pro. The top amateurs are really fun to watch but the pros are just on another level entirely.

I think that you may be missing the point. Ronnie makes running 147 look effortless and it really has nothing to do with the other player.

Granted the other player did miss on a few flyers, but when Ronnie had his chance he gave the crowd perfection.
