Oh that damn nailgun!!

My company recently purchased a new office bldg, and in the midst of framing the new interior walls I managed to shoot my self sqaure in the left index finger with a 3" framing nailer. The nail went thru a 2x4 top plate into and out the side of a 2x4 stud about 1/2" into my finger right at the longer bone just behind the joint.

It has been one month, and as an avid barbox tourney/league player, it has been quite the struggle to play as well as I expect of myself. My finger was splinted, and I lost all ability to use a closed bridge. I have adapted suprisingly well, and have 5 total money finishes and 2 1st place finishes in the last month, plus I am shooting almost 70% in the weekley local money league I play in.

Tonight is the first night out of the splint, and I only have about 40% movement of my finger. My index and middle finger are now taped together just below the injured knuckle. (Typing is fun let me tell you.) I now have a diminished rail bridge, and I am not very confident with breaking with an open bridge off of the rail. But F*&$ it I am going to go take that new (to me) Carmeli SP I just picked up and go win me a 9 ball tourney.

Off I go...Wish me luck!

Good Luck!

Good luck, and stay away from those nail guns. I have known a half-dozen full time carpenters that nailed themselves sooner or later. One in the foot and one in the knee, those guys were off work a looong time!

Nothing like being kept out of serious action to get the fires going, you will probably do great. I took down a ring game the first night after having my arm in a sling for about two months and won a pistol match setting a record that stood for years the first match back from a major surgery.

Go get'em!

If you use a nail gun enough, it will happen. I worked as a carpenter while during my summers while I was in college. I managed to shoot myself once. Fortunately it only went into the fleshy part between my thumb and finger. Everyone I worked with did it at least once. Good luck with the recovery!

I talked to a nurse a while back whose son accidentally shot himself in the head with a 3 1/2" framing nailer. The nail pierced the skull and partially embedded in the frontal lobe of his brain. He lived.

Not sure if this makes you feel better but i saw a guy that had lost his bridge arm from the elbow down.. Now that would suck...
I watched him for a few games and the guy has adapted to his handicap rather well...=)
Tough break on the nail gun accident but at least you will be able to use it again soon...=)
Good Luck!

My uncle owns a roofing company and one of his workers got mad at him and put a nail in the back of his head. He tumbled off the roof and drove himself to the hospital. He is fine surprisingly. The x-ray was pretty spooky to see.

Jeez! What happened to the a-hole?

I don't know what happened to him. I asked my uncle the same thing and he said he was handling it. At that point I plugged my ears and started doing the la, la, la, la thing so I wouldn't become an accessory to anything, kidding.

Good point

I am definately greatful to have use of all my limbs. I don't know how I would go on with out being able to play.

Update:

I got 4th of 16. Not bad I suppose, but I lost a lot of focus right there at the end. That Carmeli sure does shoot damn good. I bought it as a gift for a friend, and now I don't know if I am going to be able to give it up.

Also I am rejoicing in the fact that I can take the tape off the fingers during the game, and it isn't that bad. Still no closed bridge for a while.
