First match starts in about 30 minutes. The format 2 sets of 4 (and shootout if tie) is disappointing- would have been better if it was race to 8

Yes, and the 2021 tour series culminates in the $100K added tournament in Las Vegas in March 2022. Participating in these stops help earn a spot in the finale.

This format didn't stop nearly every top European player from competing in the recent Austrian Open, or from the event having a deserving winner (Kaci defeating Styer in the final).

Many top players have publicly voiced their opinions they are not fond of the format so they will not be participating. Don't know what else to tell you.

Making a living by travelling around the country playing in pool tournaments is about as hard as it gets. Your business plan is based on cashing in a certain percentage of tournaments. If the tournament format gets too tough, the required winning percentage will no longer be met and you can no longer afford to travel. It's simple. No food to eat, no hand to bite.

Where did I ever say that being a professional pool player was easy?

Today's pros don't have many opportunities to play tournaments with substantial added money. It's certainly their prerogative to reject those opportunities whenever they see fit.

The shorter races favor the lessor players. It's a risk reward aggregate for the top players. The investment to attend these events outweighs the potential for reward given the "crap shoot" format.
