I don't say "good luck" because I wouldn't mean it. I do not want my opponent to get lucky.
I say "play well" because I do mean that, I would like for him to play well (and lose). If he plays
well and wins then at least he played well.

I'm used to saying " Play well" also...or sometimes "" Lets have a good match."I don't say "good luck" because I wouldn't mean it. I do not want my opponent to get lucky.

It's quite common to say "good match". That's what I always say.
I always just tell people, "Lets have some fun".
To be honest, I dont want any opponent of mine to win, so wishing him well in the outcome of the match or suggesting that he 'play well', which IMO is akin to saying 'good luck, youre going to need it.....', just seems disingenuous bordering on rude to me. I would rather lighten the mood and make people feel that Im wishing them well, when Im really just uttering a meaningless pleasantry before we play.
I get more put off by bad winners and sore losers, than I do if someone doesnt wish me luck. Because as you know..... for some players.... luck itself is an art......
Have a good game is my normal phrase...
Stay out of position, my friend.
I'm gonna start shocking people and say "May your loins be fruitful." Before every tournament match lol.
Saying "good luck" is a back handed insult in that it implies your oponent needs luck to beat you.
I always say "May an unclean yak back into your linen closet".

It's a great feeling to win a match where nobody missed.
When it comes to luck, I prefer to get an unjust portion of it.
As I said I'm old school that's just how we did it , what's funny is if you get a few rolls then it's not you played well you got luckey

I don't say good luck to my opponent or much of anything for that matter, I never have. In a tournament I will shake hands but that is the last interaction I will have with them. I don't say good shot, tap my cue or anything. I just wait my turn.I grew up always saying to my opponent good luck
Now I say good luck and they say play well ,, I ask someone how you doing and its I'm doing well thank you ,, WTF ,, is going on here ,, just having a senior moment I guess

I say "play well"... I don't want you to get lucky. I want you to play your best and for me to play my best and whoever wins is the better player...
Whatever happened to the better player winning being a good thing???

Ok, because we live in a pc world, can we all agree the pool players pregame mantra shall be...
Good luck but I get an unjust portion, play well and have a good match whilst staying out of position; may your loins be fruitful when not having an unclean yak backing into your linen closet, and good match.
Then why not say play your best ,,
