This is a game we use to play in NY many moons ago to keep some of the luck and lucky rolls out of 8-ball. It also did wonders for your position game.

Call pocket with OB and call the next ball you are going to shoot before you shoot the first ball. If you can’t hit the 2nd ball you called its BIH in the kitchen. You don’t have to call the pocket of the 2nd ball until you have to shoot it. Some played the game that you HAD to call the pocket of both balls before each shot. Johnnyt

I've played that way before. We used to also play 14.1 that way...it really makes you think especially when you only have only one loose ball and you're going into a cluster, you really have to think about where those clustered balls are going to end up in order to call that second shot.

Another good game is rotation 8-Ball. You have to hit stripes or solids in numerical order.

My father used to teach us that way. You basically have to call a shot ahead, ball and pocket.
His way forced us to think about the next shot & position instead of just banging the balls around.

We used to play that. It can be humbling...

I've played Straight Pool that way myself a few times.
