Old Adams From The Closet

A number of years ago I was working a large pool tournament in Vegas and was given this cue by the guys at the Adams booth for setting up a practice table for them. I was told it was a prototype made for the show and was the reason why it did not have any typical Adams markings. Who knows if that was correct or not. I liked the cue and played with it for years until it was put away. Sorry for the crappy pictures, but they are getting better.

Nope. I'm not 100% sure it is an Adam but it is not a Joss. You can tell by the points. Joss doesn't do V-groove points like that.

i dont think its a Joss either, infact I know it isnt. EDIT: The inlays in the but have a late 80's Joss, sort of look to them. But thats about the only Joss thing I see in this cue, the joint rings mite look like a older Joss that I own I will have to look and see.. I'm not convinced its a Joss. It really dosent matter it's a cool cue and obviously worked good as its well used.


what I do know is I like it and I can tell its hit lots of balls, There is something cool about well used cues that really appeals to me. I love the top pic the best.

Thanks so much for shareing, i will probably come back to this thread 5 more times and look carefiullu at the pics, these cues are more appealing than new shiny, unchalked cues in my eyes.

Old Adams

It is probably one of those old cues that will never be 100% identified, and that is fine. The thing I like most is how solid it hits. This was my main player for several years back when people were looking for me, they called the poolhall first. It has some war stories.

Matt is that the original Bumper? Could you please remove it and show us the weight bolt or the inside of the butt cap. I think I can help you identify the cue but I need to see those photo's and the exact date when you recieved the cue.

It does look like that Joss

The year was 95, the World 8 ball was held at the Riviera and the trade show (where this was picked up) was at the convention center. It may have been pieced together or a knock off. This is interesting. Since I had not seen another one like it, I always assumed it was a prototype like they told me. The first pictures do not show very well but the veneers are double naturual and double black. My picture skills are lacking and they look like they are double wide. Here is the picture you asked for Manwon, see what you can do with it. Thanks all.

Thanks for the photo's, the weight bolt in that cue standard for what Helmstetter and Adam were using during that time frame. The Bumper that is on the cue is not original to it and you can tell buy the photo's. The weight bolt has a threaded center for a bumper attachment screw and the butt cap is designed for a non-push in bumper, that is why the butt cap has the recessed section in it.

During the time frame that you got the cue Competition Sports from Farmingdale, New York was the distributer for Helmstetter, Adam, and the Balabushka series cues. I think the cue is like you have said a prototype, but I do not think it is an Adam, I suspect that it is a Helmstetter. Either way, it is a nice looking cue, and I really like the design if it plays as nice as it looks I am certain you are a happy camper.

Thanks Craig. The cue has been in the closet about 10 years now and some pics you posted recently reminded me of it. It is one of those that will probably never be sold, but it is nice to know a little more about it.
