Because Jayson Shaw recently revealed that he looks at the Cue Ball last when shooting, I was able to get Bobby Hilton (Yale Sharkstream) to ask the panel to each answer which ball they look at last and I was surprised that there was anyone other than Jayson who did the same. It seems to me to be quite difficult to look at the cue ball last while coming through the shot so it may not be possible for this old dog to do this new trick.

Here were the answerrs:

Thorpe.....................CB
Styer.........................OB
Gorst........................OB
SVB...........................OB
Woodward.............OB

Shaw........................CB
Kaci...........................He said Back & Forth but never specified which was last
Krause......................He said Same as Kaci but never specified which was last
Alcaide.....................He made a joke that I couldn't make out but don't believe he specified which ball was last
FSR............................Got everyone laughing saying he now looks at the chalk last because of his recent monumental miscue but finall did say OB.

So of the ten MC team members, 5 said they look at the OB last, 2 (Shaw & Thorpe) said they look at the CB last and 3 (Kaci, Krause & Alcaide) did not specify which ball was last.

He may not still be but Jayson was considered to be one of, if not THE BEST shotmaker in the world so we have to give a lot of weight to what he says and Billy is no slouch either with respect to his shotmaking capabilities. I've been to the table a few times trying the look at cue ball last method and I was not comfortable or successful with it.

I know there was another thread or two running on this topic but I wanted to share what these elite 10 players hadto say about it and I believe it deserved its own thread.

Herte's the video of their answering the question and if anyone can share what David Alcaide is saying Iwouldapprfeciate that clarification.

I was in St Augustine last weekend and had dinner with Tony Robles, Neils Feijen and Stefan Sprangers. Jayson’s video came up in the car when Tony and Neils were talking about the value of short video tips. They were all object ball last. Unless maybe jacked up was Neil’s answer.

I think aiming is so much more complicated than what we can explain.
Anyone who is literate does not read one word at a time….your mind is always traveling ahead…that’s how you can pronounce the word you’re reading in context.
Looking at a table layout is much the same thing….and deadstroke is at another level.
A lot of playing pool is like art….you can only paint what you see.

This might sound a bit off. Obviously I’ve never been a champion, but I’ve had my moments and caught a gear. When I have dropped into that zone, I’m not sure what I was looking at when. I’d guess the OB as that’s my normal procedure. But when I’m in the zone(which wasn’t all that often) I can’t recall.

Anyone else relate to this?

While I'm just an average player, it's OB last except for the break, then CB last.
As to in the zone, ha ha, not that often but there is a younger player in one of our pool hall leagues that plays the music there really loud, and not really music I care for, but it is her money. Used to bother me a bit but then I realized I never herd it while shooting anyway so it's no big deal. Not in the zone per say, but interesting that your mind can just block certain things out.

Yes indeed, at the handshake he said, "you shot that left handed!" I had to look to confirm. 🤷‍♂️

In the Zone, I just knew I could do it. No thought to How. My 4th place finish in the Northwest BCAPL A division had me at hill/hill knowing if I got a shot I would win. He snapped the 9. 🤷‍♂️

To be really honest???? Who gives a shit. ;) Whatever works. Why dwell on what others do? Just giving that Cantrall guy more ammo for his loony campaign.
Oh My, "that Cantrall Guy". Oh and Looney!!!

I better go get my little ahuhga horn and start running in circles. (My little dog Milo taught me that).
I think my campaign is progressing fine. How long until the vote? Is it Head Looney or just contributing Looney? Enquiring minds ......well I will give it my all even for a Jr Lunatic position. 😉 How many votes do I get? I play with both hands so expect 2. 😉

depends on the shot. some long shots i look just at the object ball and drive the tip of the cue to the spot.
some closer ones, i see both or move back and forth in a line.

when using low draw i look at my spot on the cue ball.
close shots i see both but look more at the cue ball as i am not going to miss, so my cueball spot is more important for cueball position.

anytime you do anything all one way you are doing other things wrong.

To me it's a huge departure from a fundamental but it's working for one of our sports best shotmakers ever. TBH, I was very surprised that anyone else said they do the same but Billy said he does this too.
CB last, eyes following up the shaft towards the OB after striking CB. One smooth motion. If eye movement can be called a motion. Lol.

yes after i make a great run and people are asking me detailed questions about why did you do this on that ball and how did you miss that cluster and why did you use this spin on that shot when everyone always uses that spin and why’d you follow when draw is so much easier…and on it goes like charlie brown’s teacher blahblah blah

sorry but i was busy you’re asking the wrong person

This is what I’ve been doing of late and it’s working well. Yes, it’s very hard to trust it when there is considerable distance between CB and OB. Seeing Shaw’s video has given me renewed confidence to stick with this.

Statistics can be interesting. Statistical analysis can require insight.
My world class high-school baseball coach discouraged keeping batting averages. He taught that the batting average alone didn't tell the whole story. A hit attained in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out and bases loaded carried more weight than a hit attained during a blow out.
A pole will definitely show what the average is. I am guessing Mode is what a pole will show. The method of average players is not as important as the method of Champions and GOATs. Shrug 🤷‍♂️ Jayson Shaw falls in the Champions category and makes a simple explanation of why he looks at the ball he is hitting. Precision!
Coach Herb in baseball taught me hit the pea in the center of the baseball. It worked. I use the pea in the center of the cueball as reference for where I want to hit the cueball. By focusing on that strike I get instant feedback as to did I hit it exactly as I was aiming? If I did was it the right solution. 🤷‍♂️
Cole Dixon once gave a demonstration of the importance or uh perhaps unimportant for him, of where his eyes were when he hit whitey. He was flirting with a cute waitress and knocked the back off the pocket on a long 9 ball. His eyes were locked with hers when he hit the ball. 🤷‍♂️
