Old Kasson Table

I picked up an old Kasson table 12 yrs old or more and would like to know type of cushion rubber is on it. The previous owner says everything is original except the cloth. The cloth that's on it is Forstman and is very slow. The max. rebound I can get out of the rails length and width is 2.5 times across. I have worked on tables years ago when I worked in a poolhall and am quite capable of changing the cloth and leveling it, but I have never changed cushions before and would like to try it. I live in a very remote area of Wisconsin and getting a table mechanic to come to my home will be very costly.

Thanks
Larry

We were a Kasson dealer when we had our street store. What model do you have? If not sure try to briefly describe it.

Kasson made a nice table. Alison Fisher was under promotional contract with them for awhile.
Take a look at the last photo on this page - http://www.bullseye1.com/aboutus.html
We had Jeanette in for a promotion and used that Kasson Aurora behind us for her demo. A guy came in and offered to buy the table if she would sign it. She did. Another table sold, lol. The best part of the promo was that she brought her hubby along (George Breedlove) and he basically stole the show with trick shots.
The good old days.

You need to check the thickness of the rails, if they're 1 1/2" thick, you're going to need Accu-fast rail cushions.

It's just a 7' with a laminated frame with what appear to be maple rails that have a synthetic light oak surface laminated to it. I've replaced the pres board skirts with oak plywood because two of the press board ones were cracked. The legs are a box type that I replicated with a reduction in height to compesate for a slate backer out of the same type of oak plywood with a additional support block. I have a friend that is in the hardwood flooring business and made a slate backer for the slate out of some very high quality 3/4" subfloor plywood. The 3 pc. slate has no chips or blemishes anywhere. I like the backer because it is quick and easy to restretch new cloth after it relaxes for a few months. The back of the cushion rubber that adheres to the subrail is a smidge over 1-1/8" so I think your right with the K66. I've got the frame and slate very level now and just have to come up with a little more cash to buy what I need to finish it. What can you tell me about AMFast cushion rubber? I know where I can get them at a very reasonable price. Then I'm planning on purchasing the rest of the supplies and the felt from your website. I'm thinking about Simonis 760 because the bar tables in the local tournaments have that on them. Also thanks Glen for the heads up on the Accufast size.

Sounds like Kassons Voyager model.
I've not familiar with AMFast cushions as you mentioned.

If you look at the top rails, I think you'll find out that they are made from 2 thickness's of 3/4" plywood, laminated over. That makes the rails 1 1/2" thick. The only rail rubber that is going to fit on them rails, is made be Olhausen. I believe Donny at one time told me that they made some of the Kasson tables for Kasson at one time or another, but either way, neither K55 or K66 rail cushions will work on 1 1/2" thick rails. Why don't you take a picture of the rail rubber and post it here on AZ, so that we can get a better look at what you're talking about, and measure the thickness of the top rails while you're at it if you would.

Thank you, Glen

"What can you tell me about AMFast cushion rubber?"

Larry - AMFast cushions are nothing more than AMF's version and forumla for cushions. Just as Olhausen has "Accu-Fast" and Brunswick has "Super-Speed". They are their own trade marks on cushions is all. I use to own an AMF Playmaster years ago with those cushions and they are strong and accurate. But, I would follow Glen's advise and use Olhausen's Accu-Fast. AMF's billiard division shut down operations and Olhausen has not!

From memory of selling Kassons (and covering rails) the 2 mid-grade tables were the Voyager (maple finish) and Terminator (black finish). Both had solid maple rails with a formica finish. In essence the same table. Furniture grade traditional tables were oak over maple rails. Every table we purchased from Kasson came with rubber featherstrip.
The Kasson Terminator/Voyager style looks very much like Brunswicks Centurion without the scorewheels on the rail or leg to leg brace. They used K66 but I do not remember if there was a specific brand name for the cushions.
