Old Schoolers Thread 2

I wanted my post read and not on page 6 of a great thread by Watchez. Since I have lots of posts I figure people might be interested in what I have to say and didnt want it lost on page 6. So here it goes

With this site being around now for quite the time and me being gone for a period of time, it appears to me that lately there has been more of an influx of new members actively posting than in the recent years. I used to read posts and threads and know most people involved. Now I don't know many of them.

Makes me think, who are the Old Schoolers of AZ -

Trigger, Blackjack, Cuaba, Fast N Loose, Fatboy (well only Fatboy1 not Fatboy2), Hangemhigh, JAM, JB Cases, JoeyA, Manwon, Ribdoner, Rossaroni, Williebetmore, Spidey, Houmatroy, Mikeyfrost, lfigueroa, Terry Ardeno, Corvette, JCIN, Jay Helfert, Saw, ME....I am sure there are a slew more but those are off the top of my head.

I dont count myself as a old schooler of AZB at all, I came here on 06-And right now, I'm logged in with the wrong account now-this damn machine keeps logging me off FatBoy2 and putting me on Fatboy- I cleared the cookies. Sorry for the confusion. I really wanted to end at 9999 posts that was in my head for years and i messed it up

Back to biz:

Anyways, when I came here Tate had 4700 ish posts Seracuse Fats had lots, Jay had over 5,000, same for JAM. So this was a well established board with people who have been in pool longer than I have been and are more knowledgeable than I am. I have learned a whole lot here, Now I been around pool rooms since 85, been on the road(when that existed), recently been involved with streaming since TAR got started-learned lots from JCIN, Jay, Tate, Will Prout, Watchez, Disco, Donny Mills, And 100 other people.

What I have done here is my very best to be helpful to new people, made some long informative posts about ivory(which is probably the only topic I'm the most knowlegable about than any on AZB, except the nuances of using it in fabricating cues) The cue makers know more than me about using ivory. All I have really done is tried to help people learn, been social, busted a few balls when I had a chance,, cracked a few jokes. Etc. But none of that makes me a old schooler on AZB.


I been around pool 26 years, been behind the scenes of lots of pro events, know alot of them. Know the promoters. Dont cross talk, lots of people have confided very valuable information in asking my opinion and I have never put their biz in the street. Thats why people talk openly to me because they know I wont put their business in the street. I give them my opinon based on my lifes experience and keep things private. I dont post most of what I know because that would betray their trust. I hope I have helped people who have came to me for input or advice, hell i'm honored that they ask me. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I do my best. So I know alot about alot of things that i keep private. And yeah i'm proud of that. I have the respect of most of the pro's.


I never won a pool tournemnt in my life, except a 8 player race to 1 single elimination event in college and got a little trophy.


I know my way around pool, and hustling, i been hustled lots of times, and I hustled a few people myself. I love to play. I'm not a great player, wasnt born with a lick of talent. I'm proud to know lots of people in pool and I like almost everyone of them. Some of them dont like me cause i talk to much or about myself like this post-sorry is all i can say, its not intentional. I'm not special and play by the same rules as everyone else.

Some of the greatest moments in my life have happened in pool. and some of the worst.

Thats my resume' and IMO no I'm not a old schooler here, and with 26 years in pool about half that time I lived pool, thats all there was in my life. I'd say that no I'm not old school but I aint green either. I rememeber slow tables and big pockets, the road, met Mosconi. So i'm in the middle I think 40 years is old school. Jay, Billy, Buddy, Grady, Keith, Ed Kelly, etc are old school, you can be old school with 40 solid years even if your not a champion. On AZB I think 04 is old school I came in late 06. I made lots of posts cause of my health, its a social outlet for me.

Well That would make me an old schooler then. I played my first pool in 1968 and was hooked by 1970. Playing for chump change by 1975 and winning a few small time tourneys by 1978....My how time flies.

I'm really glad you've kept up with the posting and appreciate the kind words. You're definitely old school. You lived the history before you found AZ.

One of my all time great moments in AZ history is when you high rolled Bucktooth at the Derby. I think that's when you made a name for yourself in my book. Seeing him literally RUN out of that room cracked me up and still does - especially after all the crap he dished out as Cornfed. I still laugh about it.

When you and I met, seeing you drive up to Hollywood Billiards in that big Bentley or Rolls with those massively pimped out 21" wheels - then just sit there and talk about old players and cues - that was great.

Anyway, you are firmly planted in AZ Billiards lore. No matter what happens, I bet they will still be talking about Fatboy - maybe for the next 100 years! Your cue collecting and sponsorship of events, your stories, and support of the pro players when you can help - even in this rough business time - has just really showed how sincerely you love this game and the people involved in it.

Ultimately, we all do it for the love of the game - that's what it's all about.
