Old Seattle Pool Rooms ... who remembers?

Russ Chewning said:
Oh yeah, I remember the 211. I used to drive up from Tacoma to play in their tournaments. I remember playing Mike Zimmerman, Masa Sasaki, J.D., Tim Tweedel and a few others there. Had some real nice snooker and billiard tables there.
You know, you've mentioned Tim's name several times, pretty much anytime you're trying to give yourself any credit or connection.

I actually saw Tim last night at a tournament and asked him if he knew you. His response - "Don't know him at all... he must not be any good if I don't know him."

True story.

you know you're a C player if....... you name drop people who don't know you....

Am I losing my mind? (probably) Was't Whitey's real name George Micheals?
I know he was also known as "Crazy and Tacoma" depending on who you were talking to. I see a George Micheals listed in recent tournament results, I guess thats not the same guy, huh? Are you saying Whitey passed away in '83. I had not heard that. Please update this poor old
uninformed idiot!
Thanks
Dick

Dick, the George Michaels you see now is originally from Chicago. Now in the Bay Area & has been for quite a few years. One of the better players up here for quite a while. John

The snooker table at the Zoo has always been their table, never belonged to the 211, I know, I moved the 211 from Union st up stairs on Bell. Took me 6 weeks to move, repair broken slates, fix everything that needed fixing, and set the tables up for John at the new location.

Glen

That I did not know. Either way it is a very beautiful table. The light above the table says 211 billiards, so I assume the light, at least, is authentic 211 memorabelia.

Thanks for setting me straight.

I agree! :D :D :D I never said I was anything but a C player.

So.. Now that THAT is out of the way, and Tim has confirmed I'm nobody.... What yah gonna spot me in One Pocket? We're gonna be visiting relatives in Puyallup sometime around the end of the year. :D

Do you think Tim is really that good with names? Russ hasn't lived here for years.

I can't say I've ever been. I moved here two years ago. However I see signs all around the city. The snooker table is now at the Zoo tavern on Eastlake, and I have seen a few other of 211's tables around town. It seems, even to a newcomer, that the 211 will never really die...

Julians has a snooker table. If you don't mind venturing to the eastside you can find a english snooker table at the Parlor in bellevue.

The 211

I was in Seattle a couple of weeks ago, first time, the only pool halls I could find were really fern bars for yuppies. One of the room owners here in Colorado Springs, Jim Barber, has a lot of stuff from the 211. There are still some house cues marked with the 211 club in his room. His room is called "Antique Billiards". He has billiards memorablia all over the place. It is worth a stop if you get out this way. God I miss those places!

Don't mind Roscoe, Larry. I pizzed him off sometime in the far, far, far distant past (prob something to do with me not liking drugs, or tending towards conservative values), and he generally takes shots at me whenever he can.

If I am not mistaken, HE is one of the main reasons I ended up changing my signature, and taking Baghdad, Iraq off my location.

If anyone dared to thank me for being in Iraq, him, or someone like him would quickly jump to the rescue to say "Bu-bu-bu-but HE'S NOT IN THE MILITARY anymorrrrrrrre!!!!!!!!"

I got tired of correcting people BEFORE Roscoe and others could attack me, so I simply changed my location so people wouldn't want to thank me.

Hey Roscoe, I still got 9-7 when I visit Warshington, right????? :D :D :D

First of all, Russ - you have me confused with someone else. I made fun of you for saying you were the best in Iraq and for the banner. I am NOT one of any reasons you took anything off of your signature, so you can back that bus right the **** up.

Drugs? Conservative values? You REALLY need to get your facts straight before you run off at the mouth (keyboard), because you have me all wrong.

"Him, or someone like him?" You're a tool, dude... I'm a veteran and have served my time. I have respect for those that deserve respect - if that shoe fits, then wear it. If not, then you can take it for what it's worth.

You feel like people should proactively thank you based upon what your occupation is. You earn respect, it's not freely given out......

Yes, you have 9-7 for whatever cash you can put together - whenever.

great response... you cannot even acknowledge when you are in the wrong.

zero respect for that...

Mah.. Sometimes it's hard to remember WHY exactly someone keeps attacking you.

I seem to have made up with juuuuusssst about everyone else but you, but you seem to hold a grudge.

Me and Blackjack weren't on each other's fan lists about 9 months ago, and we recently shot a few racks together in Orlando.

John Schmidt probably hated my guts (and rightly so) around 9 months ago. But at DCC, we ended up sitting together watching Bob Hunter run a buncha balls.

I'll freely admit that I was having a rought time, and was pissed off at the world at that time period. Iranian mortars and rockets dropping around my sleeping quarters every other day had that effect.

Sorry, but since you still seem to dislike me "on principle", I will return the favor.

So, I will apologize for incorrectly characterizing the nature of your dislike for me. There, I apologized....You happy? :D

Russ

P.S. I'll contact you for that match whenever I get in the Tacoma area to visit old City Lights chums.

how do you figure?? The post above was the only reference to you this year - and only a VERY small handful last... Sorry, dude, but don't flatter yourself... I don't chase you down trying to nail each and every post you made.

You made an ass of yourself a year or so ago, you got called on it, that was it - for me, at least... if you have a hard-on for me and it makes you feel better to think I do for you, then keep on living your dreams... it's not reality.

I'll play you on the first table in Dr. Cues giving weight any time you're up for it.....

Yeah I think they just bought one of the long snooker table lights from 211 with the stained glass. I have played at the Zoo quite a few times. Still a good game on that table.

Yeah 211 Club is still the best pool hall I have played in as far as just pool. Places like that can't make it these days. I was going in there when I was 19 with my older college pool friends. Started doing okay in the tourneys. I played Raul towards the finals one day, as a 8-ball player at the time shooting the 9-ball tourney, and after he beat me 3-2 he said "You gonna be good player some day." Stuck with me and gave me something to live up to. Still haven't got there but something to strive towards. :o

No nonsense pool. Remember a sign on the wall used to say "No Whistling, No Loud Noises, No Bull$#!+"...the way it outta be.

UWPoolGod1...i think Raul may have been trying to build you up to take your money?..or he was being supportive either way you have gotten there it seams

Ohhh, I remember the 211.. :)

I spent a LOT of time on those tables.
Vince carrying Lila up the steps
everyday. :)
Watching Harry Platis playing some of the BEST names in pool.
Hanging out, talking to some of the nicest people I have ever known, unfortunately,
some of the names I have forgotten, as it has been over 20 years ago.

They sure don't make pool halls like the 211 anymore.

New York Mel

Anyone remember N.Y. Mel , I think he worked at 211, was wondering if he's still with us ?
