what are some opinions in some of the old cues of the past and how do they compare to the newer cues? for example i have a 20 year old joss and a 4-5 year old joss. the newer one seems to have a harder hit and the balance feels different. also what ever happened to palmer cues?

I agree. Even with the same cue maker or commercial cues lines the older & new are much different. But with that said even a commercial line of identical cues each cue will play different.
To my knowledge the Adam cue company now owns palmer. They do make a series of the older looking palmers but I doubt it's as good as the original but have never hit with one.

Methods, materials , machinery and knowledge is always getting better so cues will generally always get better.
Cheap cues will continue to get cheaper but better in quality , High end cues will continue to get more precise ,and detailed with greater repeatabililty and more accuracy in the intended outcome.
Both should hold up better and better over longer periods of time.
We know what has been done in the past , how to replicate it or improve on it but you still never know what the future may bring.

Evan Clark (Schon) once told me that cues don't improve with age. I have always thought of that before I purchased a cue.
Eva Clark was in the business of selling new cues.

I thought the originals had gone out some time ago but didn't know the actual maker just the brand name palmer. I had seen a couple of the originals back in the 80's nice looking cues. Do you know if the Adam CO are the ones doing the imports of the remakes ? Thats just what I heard but not sure.
