WHO THE HELL GIVES UP 20-1 odds???????
It was the casino giving odds on a Challenge of the Champions event, winner take all. The guy getting the best odds ended up winning the whole thing after several of the rest of the field botched some relatively easy shots.

I think you should have played her opposite handed and tried your best to beat her. You probably would not, so it would be the same result, but with real, if limited competition. You would also get that oposite handed practice. I'm right handed and it is harder than hell to break left handed. For what it is worth.

To everyone that keeps saying that you shouldn't run over your GF, do you think that it matters to the guy that (possibly) got screwed out of second place? It doesn't matter to him what their relationship is, if they are friends, cousins, significant others or whatever. They took away that guy's chance of playing a D player to advance and matched him up against the better player to improve their odds of winning more money.

What if they didn't know each other? Best player in the house (1), a D player (2) and a third player(3). If (2) offered (1) some cash to drop the game since (1) could easily bet (3) anyway, do you think that would be fair? What they did was basically the same thing. Everyone seems to be giving him a pass because it was his girlfriend. Like I said before, the odd guy out doesn't care what their relationship is, he and the girlfriend payed the same amount to enter so they should get the equal game.

Plyn, did you ever stop to think that maybe you got a pass from the regulars on this shady move because you where with your girlfriend? Would you have pulled the same thing if it would have been a D level buddy of yours instead of your girlfriend? Would the regulars' reaction been the same? Would the TD have let this slide? I doubt it.

Two thumbs down on this move.

Would I have pulled it? Doubt it. But if I did, I would understand that I may be risking getting my a** beat over the difference in $ between 2nd and 3rd.

What is wrong with bangers??????

Everyone keeps acting like just because the hall was full of bangers that the rules go out the window. Couple of things about bangers.

1. Bangers usually just want to have a good time.
2. Their goal is usually not to break ($) everyone they play. If they can win a few bucks, sure, but if not, oh well.
3. They are usually drinking. (relaxing, having fun)
4. Most of the "shark" moves they do are because they do not know pool etiquite, not to throw you off your game.
5. They don't have a hidden agenda, unless it is that they are trying to hookup with a chick that is there.
6. Don't make "moves" to improve odds or tournament positioning very often. They just play.

Sounds to me like it was the friendly neighborhood tournament. If they are bangers, then so what. Probably means that they are not trying to run a scam on you. Is that such a bad thing?

You want to know what is bad for pool? When people that can dominate a tournament like this, come in and pull this kind of BS. That is when the bangers will disappear real quick. Why should they want to come back if they fell like they are only going to get cheated. Then there goes the tournament, and before long there goes the poolhall. It doesn't say alot about the sport that this is even a question of if it was a legit move. Says even less when a TD would let it happen.

If two card players where betting "together" to increase each others chip count, would you continue to set at that table. Would you go back next time? I wouldn't.

Funny thing is, if you asked the OP why he played pool, he would probably say that it was for the "competition", not the money. Well, "competition" means stepping up EVERY TIME and giving your best game.

I love it when a thread like this comes up and people get "holier than thou." I like it what Colin said about casting the first stone. I don't know you personally Russ and I'm not trying to start an argument, but if you've played pool for longer than 2 years than it is a fact you have done some questionable things for monetary gain. And the fact that your married and you never let your wife win a game and "beat her brains in" doesn't show you have ethics, it shows that you have a much bigger ego to boost than a guy who forfeits to his girlfriend in a local tournament.
