GOOD LUCK!

Hi Steve, neat idea! How are you able to do this legally? From what I understand, online raffles can be risky if they're not setup just right. Otherwise, I think we'd probably see more tournament fundraising tried this way (win a free trip to the Sang Lee Open, etc).

Hey Tom,

Thanks, I didn't know there was a raffle section. I will use it.

Olhausen Raffle

Hi Robert,

Can't speak for why someone didn't do this for Sang Lee. Perhaps because it is a lot of work and it does have to be done right and legal. This raffle is conducted above board and transparent.

I hope you will participate in the tourney. You seemed to do well the last time you played in a USBA tournament in Michigan.

You have to go get it, though, if you're not from there, right?. It says, "Delivery Options To Contiguous State" If you're not from a contiguous state you're going to have to pay for delivery and such, correct?

Raffle delayed?

Steve and all, from the USBA Board:

We understand that you have announced online a raffle for a billiard table being donated to you by Olhausen in conjunction with an upcoming tournament being held at The Carom Club of Wyoming, MI, and that announcement directs viewers to a website for the purchase of raffle tickets. None of what you and The Carom Club has done in this regard has been done with any authority from the United States Billiards Association. Because, as far as we know, neither you nor The Carom Club have complied with various laws that may govern such raffles, we are writing to inform you that the United States Billiard Association cannot be associated with the raffle and cannot assist you with the raffle in any way. Any possible assistance that you may have been told you would or might receive from the United States Billiard Association or any of its Officers or Directors for the raffle will not be given. Further, neither you nor The Carom Club are authorized to use the name of the United States Billiard Association in connection with the raffle in any manner whatsoever. To the extent you are using the name of the United States Billiard Association in connection with the raffle, that is to immediately cease. We regret having to send this to you, but trust you will understand that the United States Billiard Association cannot be associated with any activity that my violate the law. If the USBA happens to hold a tournament in your room, then it will have absolutely NOTHING to do with a raffle or donated table. It will simply be a tournament and that's all.

Olhausen 10ft. Heated Billiard Table Raffle

Hi Everyone,

I have good news and I have bad news.

I wish I could have made my announcement prior to Jim Shovak's announcment. His announcement might give some the impression that the USBA was blindsided by The Carom Club raffle. Our club has been in existence since 1963 and conduct ourselves in a very professional manor.

Here are the facts: the laws governing raffles are problematic. Each state has it's own laws regarding raffles. We don't want to do anything that would jepordize the USBA or The Carom Club. We want to be completely above board.

So, we have suspended our raffle and have already sent out refunds.

The good news is we have a beautiful Olhausen 10ft. billiard table we will auction off with proceeds going to help fund the tour event.

The auction will be announced shortly.

Thanks,

Steve Andersen

Cup tipped to all interested parties. I look forward to the raffle and wish all the best of luck.

Thanks, Olhausen!

Olhausen Raffle/Auction

Hi Everyone,

Sorry, Steve. I did not intend to imply anything. It was more a matter of legality that I make that post immediately under the advice of Board Members.

Again, let me reiterate: as far as the USBA is concerned, the proceeds of the auction have nothing to do with a USBA event. The Carom Club can use the proceeds as it sees fit. The USBA Tour will accept a donation of added money to a Tour event, but again, we have nothing to do with the auction and the purpose of the auction is NOT to fund a USBA event. Are you understanding the difference and why I am saying this?

Please do not say, "a beautiful Olhausen 10ft. billiard table we will auction off with proceeds going to help fund the tour event". Simply say, "a beautiful Olhausen 10ft. billiard table we will auction off with proceeds going to help the Carom Club fund future events" or something like that.

A USBA event is a separate issue altogether.

Sorry for the legal semantics lesson, but it is necessary.

Olhausen 10ft.heated table raffle

Hey Dean,

Olhausen has been making carom tables for a long time. They just added heaters to compete with the European manufactures. Our carom club has played on Olhausens for years. We had a Brunswick at one time but most the players preferred the Olhausens.
