Got a quote today on an 8' Pro Olhausen Sahara, 1" slate, wood backing, simonis cloth, MOP sights, Olhausen premium package incl. Aramith super pro balls, 4 McDermitt cues, racks, etc. delivery and setup, for $4900. Is this fair? retail for the table is $6000; was hoping to get it for $4000, because I hear they don't sell at all. Does the table look better with or without reveals? What maple wood finish looks good on this table? Also, any concerns that the table is veneer, not solid wood?

Would I be better off with a Brunswick Metro or Gibson, or a Diamond Hortensia?

I don't know what your location is, but considering the package that you mentioned, that's fairly comparable to what most dealers will price that table at. The reveals are what makes the table stand out in a crowd, if you don't like them, then get the Monarch model. Natural or butternut with black reveals look quite good, as does graphite with chrome. If you buy the table from, and have it installed by and serviced by an authorized Olhausen dealer, then the veneer is of no concern because it will have a lifetime warranty! As far as the other models...IMO stay with Consumer Reports Best Buy - Olhausen...Made in the USA!

As to whether you would be better off with one of those other tables, I don't know.

I can tell you that our Olhausen Riviera (sp? but is the close sibling of the Sahara - basically the same top section with different legs) was only $1,000 cheaper back in 1993 and our upgrade included
Brunswick Centennial balls but did not include 'premium' cues) or Simonis cloth.

It now has Simonis cloth and the table has lasted well. We are very happy with it even if we do not get to play on it that often.

I can tell you from experience. I have played on and owned many different tables. I currently have the Olhausen Monterey, and I love it.

Snug pockets, rolls true and plays fantastic with Simonis cloth.

I don't know much about your particular model but if $4900 was the first offer they made to you, I guarantee that you can do better. Just haggle a bit.

I only wish I had bought a 9' table instead of the 8'er.

Got a quote from a separate dealer for $3900, so I agreed to buy the table. Just trying to decide on color now. The wife likes the Spring Cherry finish, with camel cloth; chome reveals. I think I will be happy with an 8 ft. pro size; I have no tournament aspirations; just want to play for fun.
