His resume includes 2 U.S. Open 14.1 Championships, a World 9 Ball Championship, 5 European 14.1 Championships, 6 European 9 Ball Championships, 2 European 8 Ball Championships, 10 German 14.1 Championships, 3 German 9 Ball Championships and he is a 2 time winner of the Challenge of Champions.
What great credentials! Most of his European & German titles were won in fields that included Ralf Souquet, Thomas Engert, Thorsten Hohmann, Niels Fijen, Mika Immonen and the like.

yeah, first one in 1996 and second 10 (ten!) years later! Yesterday was the third one. You might be curious why his achivements at 8-Ball are quite modest compared to other games? Because it is Ralf Souquet who is The King of 8-Ball in Europe The Kaiser I would say.

I'm not comparing them. Souquet just came to my mind when I was reading your first post. If we replace "Ortmann" with "Souquet" it will not change much. Same enormous roster of titles, devastating play. But Oliver is a winner this year (Ralf still has a chance in 9-Ball and teams of course), that is I think the reason you posted about him.

I want to apologize to you because when I first read your post, I mistakenly thought you just posted to "bash" Ortmann. I sincerely am sorry for misunderstanding.
Thank you for your input on Ralf Souquet. I have met him several times and he is always a true gentleman and a great champion. I always enjoy watching "The Kaiser". Both of these marvelous champions have many wonderful accomplishments to be proud of.

Watching Ortmann when he is on his game is truly an amazing sight to see. He makes everything look so easy as he runs out, it's not hard to understand why they call him "The Machine."

I remember his match from the 2002 Mosconi Cup against Johnny Archer, it was probably the most amazing nine ball I've ever seen him play, he was breaking like a monster and running out from everywhere.

Ya, he is awsome to watch. He has such a fluid stroke, it's a little all over the place but it is still visually pleasing.

I wonder how long before his name starts being mentioned for a hall of fame induction.

You would think he will be a lock for the HOF when his playing days are over, but then again players like Allen Hopkins aren't part of the HOF when they clearly deserve to be in there. Either way Ortmann will go down as one of the great European players of his generation when his playing days are over.
