OMGWTF Disses Mike Dechaine, in style

I bought the stream. Shane played great, Mike not so well, so Mike got pounded. Mike did what plenty of people do when they get pounded, nothing out of the ordinary there. It was a typical TAR Production, top drawer and about pool. I completely enjoyed it.

OMGWTF wrote in her blog about the match and as usual, I found the blog to be well written and funny. I especially enjoyed the fact that she was writing about something I had watched, a shared experience.

I enjoy watching TAR matches so I buy them and watch them.

I enjoy reading OMGWTF's blog so I log on and read it.

If I didn't enjoy TAR, I wouldn't pay.

If I didn't like her blog, I wouldn't read it.

For me (and Im speaking only for myself her as it seems some folks are very apt to keep doing things they at least claim they don't enjoy) life is far too short to spend time involved in things I don't enjoy.

Thanks

Kevin

But wouldn't you have a base level of respect for the person involved in the product you enjoy? She has none for Mike and instead is being outright hurtful. Passing this blog off as some literary masterpiece is nuts. Making fun of the way someone looks? That's garbage.

Well Melinda missed some good stuff in my opinion.

There was no mention of the instance where, Mike was aleady getting drilled and Shane shot a jump shot , Mike said "I realize it's a little late in the match but is he allowed to use 2 jump cues?". That must be why Shane was winning, because he used two jump cues!

Then, Shane was sitting in his chair, Mike at the table, accused him of moving. I don't even think Mike was down on a shot. Shane said "I didn't move" Mike said "yes you did". Guess what? The only thing that we saw moving was the smirk.

Here's a lesson: If you're a professional and don't want to be mocked, act like a professional, like Shane. You never hear Shane saying or doing stuff like that. His mind is on the game, not on anything else. Mike seems to have lost before the first break.

Ralf Souquet told me a similar story about Earl. Playing the Challenge of Champions Earl was 20 ft away, shooting a shot looking away from Ralf and he says, "quit moving Ralf".

Anyone who knows Ralf knows that he is a statue in the chair.

"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them!" wasn't this debate held > 10 years ago?
Is there a problem of devaluing males?

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you are asking do I have some respect for Mike? Of course I do, he's a pro player and plays a game I like and consider myself pretty good at far better than me.

Because he is a pro player and in the limelight (so to speak) he is held to task for his appearance and actions. A movie personality can't walk their dogs without 1000 people discussing what they wore, who they talked to, how they acted.

If you are saying OMGWTF doesn't respect Mike, I think you are wrong. She plays competitive pool and Mike would destroy her and she knows that, and for any real player there's a level of respect there.

Did she make fun of him? Yep. Did he act in a way where he "deserved" it? Hey, when you are in the public eye you get all that, ridicule and adoration. Its the nature of the beast. You can't seriously be saying that you believe she should censor her comments to only praise people?

Thanks

Kevin

Oh you edited, sorry I responded too quickly. So you are saying she's too judgmental?

Thanks again

Kevin

Im not saying she should censor anything but she just put herself in the limelight as well. If you want to write a hurtful public blog, people are going to comment on it. She could have been critical of Mike without resorting to elementary school style tactics. To me this is a blemish on the event. It looks bad. Id expect that type of article from a 5 year old.

Of course she put herself in the limelight, that's one of the points of blogging isn't it? If you've read the comments in this thread, its her tactics that make her blog popular.

I really don't think a 5 year old could write nearly as well as she does. Plus, what 5 year old would be there to experience the event? JCIN invites her. She shares her point of view, which I enjoy reading. I don't see the harm. I like to see everybody's POV, it helps me form one of my own.

Im not saying shes too judgemental, I guess im saying she has no tact. Hurtful insults against someone who brought you a match to sweat is low. She wrote a blog with the intention to humiliate and get people to laugh at Mike, id assume because she had a beef with him over her phone. Who does that? Its hurtful and immature.

Who does that? Satirists and bloggers and writers do that. That's what they do. Ever seen a political cartoon? Know what a caricature is ? That's what happens to people in public view. She exaggerates and dramatizes to make a point and entertain. I don't know what you believe, but I don't believe that she thinks Mike's head is "too big". Lots of people have commented on it before her, its a "knock" on Mike, he behaved in a way that she believed deserved satire and she made fun of him, big deal.

Just like I don't believe that you really think that a 5 year old could have written her blog. I think you were dramatizing to make a point.

Thanks

This article was a turn off for some people. Thats the last thing these events need.

It also was a turn on to some people, which is exactly what these events need. I'm sure you noticed that the actual promoter of the event in question had only positive things to say about OMGWTF and her participation in his event.

It just cracks me up that whenever we take exception to anything, we always point to that thing as what's "wrong with pool".

Don't like her blog? Don't read it. She's not hurting pool. She's not hurting TAR. She's promoting pool.

Thanks again

Kevin

I wasnt implying a 5 year old would have the ability to write a blog. I was implying that a 5 year old would chose to fill most of the article with pics, poking fun at the size of someones head. Sorry for not being clear on that.

Passing this blog off as some literary masterpiece is nuts. Making fun of the way someone looks? That's garbage.

I don't think anyone is claiming this is a literary masterpiece. There are several different ways that blogs are used. Some are corporate, some are informational/educational, some are for promotion (self or otherwise), some are for entertainment and some are personal. OMG has a particular style that some people enjoy and others don't. Most personal blogs are highly opinionated.

The contents of her blog are not unique to pool. Every sport and every industry has blogs of this kind. Some are anonymous, some are not. Hers isn't terribly anonymous, since most know who she is and those that know her know that she has no problem expressing her opinions whether they be written or verbal.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your opinion), it looks like this won't be an issue, as her entire blog has been replaced with a temp page.

Just my $0.02.

I'm not a Mike Dechaine fan, but I do agree with him. Publicity is Publicity. Especially true in this case. This thread has just degraded into a battle of opinions.

Quit making sense.

It has no place here.

She reminds me of the bully kids that tried to make my son miserable. I spoke with their father...and made him cower like a little puppy. You have no idea the instinctual response of a man whose children are threatened.

People like her only attack those who they assume will not respond. Someday she will mess with the wrong person.

Great story about your child. Who is the child in this situation, Mike? Just having a small problem with the analogy, but maybe you are just telling a story about how you handle things with your kid for some reason?

How is it that OMGWTF assumed Mike would not respond? He could and he did and they were both quite civil about it (but perhaps you had already talked to her parents?).

If you find a five year old who can write with that cleverness and ability to turn a phrase and properly use double-entendres then you will be rich.

Gosh folks, it's simply her report on her interaction with Mike which she found to be unpleasant.

Yeah, it's a bit "mean" but I guess one has to wonder where that came from? What's the source material.

Mike himself has been exemplary on AZB as far as I can tell and deserves to be treated with civility and respect. He has not thrown that away on the forum. However it's possible that he didn't act as nice and cordial in the TAR studio and around the people associated with the event as he does here.

It's kind of a hit piece but not entirely without grounds. And of course anything but chocolate and roses is going to get criticized. As for pros getting dissed on blogs being detrimental to the sport????

Really?

No.

Really Really?

No no no.

Really? Seriously? Who could possibly think this?

Someone actually thinks that this will have a negative impact on pool? Like pool is going to drop what .000000012990384% point in the public consciousness? The tour is going to collapse? Sponsors are going to flee? Nike is going to cancel it's contract with Mike Dechaine?

Come on. The worst that can happen is that someone somewhere who has zero interest in pool stumbles onto the article and finds it snarky and funny and it goes viral and then more people get interested in the characters in pool.

Obviously "dissing" pro athletes on forums and blogs AND in mainstream media hasn't harmed any other sport. So could we tone down the idea that this would really have any impact on pool in any direction please? I wish it could.
