On a shaft, what is this called?

How is the grain orientation on those two? I bet they are perfect .

They are all perfect. That's the best part of quarter sawn wood. You can straight line edge along the edge of the grain, and cut from that so that all of the shafts are dead nuts centered on the grain. Makes a difference.

Flat cut or through and through can give you quartered when in square form ...I'll buy 10/4 and resaw...Just my 2:grin:
