I think that Colfax Billiards is now located west, on Tennyson - about 6 tables inhabit the place.

Yeah, I think what happened is that Frank lost the lease on the Colfax and Sheridan building that was then inhabited by the Billiards Institute. The bar table area of Billiard Institute had been a real gem of a place called the Alley Cat. They knocked a wall out and combined them. Colfax Billiards reopened sort of on tennyson. I have played there once or twice but a while ago. They had the GCs from Colfax Billiards. There were more than 6 when I was there, but maybe it changed. Then Frank opened Table Steaks on Sheridan in addition to "Colfax" Billiards on Tennyson This was in the late 80's early 90's, I don't remember the exact timing.

The Table Steaks East place is on Parker, and I think may have been sold by Frank. I dunno. I asked about him when I was there last year. It was something else before. I much prefer the other one.

I imagine Table Steaks is the place for action, but I have not been there in years. The original Colfax Billiards had action. There may have been some at 38th and Sheridan too. Seemed like the west side had more action. I went there to play billiards sometimes. Is that place still open?

You may be referring to Family Billiards? on 38'th.

East side has TS 2 and, at Havana and Jewell, Rack 'Em where the owner is a prick and I ain't mincing words.

Yeah, Family Fun Center at 38th and Sheridan. If your idea of family fun is the constant golf game and smoke.:p

I wasn't playing much when the Havana and Jewell room opened. I had an office near there for a little while and lived nearby briefly. Went in a couple times. But I didn't like it very well and just wasn't playing pool at all. That thing called life getting in the way.

We all have priorities and save for the xmas holidays, I'm glad I'm single. I play pool when I want.

LOL. Here's my AAA Billiards story of the week in the X-Mas spirit for you. The room was in Aurora at Montview and Dayton. Not the greatest neighborhood. It was closed on Christmas. But one of the guys who worked there who was single got bored X-Mas day and went in and hit balls with the door locked. I am relying on his version since nobody was around to verify the story as the room was closed. Anyway, he's hitting balls and some people start knocking on the locked door. The whole front was big windows and a glass door so you could see in. Well, this couple needs some money and they start begging. And don't get anywhere, he keeps saying the room is closed, no money in the till and I don't have any yada yada. So right in front of her the guy offers his wife/girlfriend to the guy for some money. Like "Come on, $20 and she will do the following acts..." The employee says no, so the guy cuts the price on his wife down. I think he got down to like $5. She wasn't a pro really, they were actually a couple. It wasn't like they were specifically in the business. Finally the employee had enough and gave them like $5 and kicked them out. Merry f***in Christmas.

Hey this is great whenever Silencer starts a post lets all change the subject. Does anyone remember Ye Olde Billiard Den in Hollywood, CA?

Yeah, I went down the hijack path with no worries.:)

Never been there. How was it? In Hollywood it must have had some good stuff go on.

Lot of action in the seventies. Stars mixed with gamblers. Danny Diliberto came through. took off a bunch of people. Richie Florence, Richie Ambrosia, Philly Joe, Bernie Schwartz, Gene Nagy,Cole Dickson, Jimmy Reid,Iceman, Cripple Shorty, Jerry the Greek, along with Telly Savalas, Jim Garner, Jimmy Caan,. I played Richard Pryor there once. Marvin Henderson was there too. Ronnie A took Phil Spector there for a large dump. Ernie of Gina cue was hawking his cues back then. A friend got one with ivory for $150. Probably worth 20 times that now. Johnny "The Dancer" Brascia use to play there. He went on to produce the Baltimore Bullit. Lenny Moore and Cuban Joe. It was a scoundrel time.

bernie,,,if you're jewish, then you can best answer your own question since you understand the mindset.

For the record, one of the greatest pool players back in the day was Bernie Schwartz, who by the way is Jewish and lives in the Detroit area...

What about Cliff Joyner? Isn't he pro? Maybe I am wrong, but I thought he was black and he is a great one pocket player if not in the top 5 best in the world.

if you recall, i did fraze the question with a bit of humor, remember mike meyers when he was the jewish mother and got fa-klempt? he would throw out a subject then say discuss, well that's what i did, must be cabin fever from all this f%$#ing snow!

allie, you are right. Bernie Schwartz was a hell of a player. Virtually no one knew him out side of the Detroit-Chicago area.

I was in with Bernie in 1979 when Louie Roberts tried to give him the last 3 on a big table in Chicago. Another old friend, Steve Oaks, was in with Louie. Neither Louie or Steve knew how well Bernie played. They found out.

To this day, when I tell this story, people say, You mean Larry Schwartz. LOL

sorry if i offended anyone. my point was simply this. i am jewish. in sports there are hardly any jewish sports heros. hence the question is he? i believe he is, i meant this as a good thing. there are no black pro pool players, this is a shame. however, you could look at someone and say ahh their black. you can't look at someone and say ahh their jewish. anyhow, sorry for being off topic, but honestly how many jewish professional pool pros are there??????? p.s. i was told in isreal they don't play pool they play snooker, is this true?
i believe they play snooker in the middle East...I have an Afghan worker who i used to play pool. He said he mostly plays snooker and he use to have a snooker table back in afghanistan. He's one hell of a shot maker

I hear that it's THE place for a money game although I don't know for a fact.

Kokopuffs,

Does Medina still call Denver his home? Does he play there a lot? If so, does stick to the bar boxes or the 9 footers? I heard he's a pretty good bar box player.

I think he plays whatever people want. I don't know him, but at least when I was in Denver he would play all the games. He'd play and run out in golf. He'd play billiards. He'd certainly play 9'. I can't say whether he was better on bar boxes or regular tables. Mostly people didn't want to play him.;)
