One Final Cue

Okay. I got my tax returns back today, and I've decided that I am purchasing one final cue. It's not that I don't think I'll ever want another cue again, but I want this to be my cue, the only one that I'll ever need.

Obviously, I'm thinking of spending quite a bit on this, anywhere around $3,000 would be good. I like Victorian-esque inlays, ivory, no black woods, white linen wraps or black leather wraps, I love the look of old cues, I love Titlist conversions... so, any ideas you can give me would be extremely helpful, and, if possible, point me in the direction of some pictures if you have the time.

I want something fancy and beautiful, but not over the top. It must play extremely well.

Take care,
-Matt

If you can make the trip, I would suggest heading to the SBE in Valley Forge. You'll get to see lots of different cues and may find something you like and that you can get your hands on immediately, avoiding a wait for build time. Just a suggestion.

If I had 3 grand and I wanted a really pretty cue that hits fine, I'd get a Prewitt.

What do you play with now? There's a ton of high-end cuemakers that can make you what you want, but you might want to match up the playability with something closer to what you currently like.

I'd go with Andy Gilbert, and I'd have two cues make. A shooter and a sister jumper.

Excellent point. Right now I play with a Predator sneaky pete with an irish linen wrap, I also use a Z shaft, which I will probably use on any cue that I get; so, I suppose the shaft wood, taper, etc. aren't a huge issue, just the playability of the butt and aesthetics.

Whast ever Q you get save money for a Justis CASE....

Hee. I already have an ultra-sweet Instroke saddle series that I dig too much to get rid of.

Although, Justis makes some awesome cases.

For unique cues check out www.hightowercues.com

Personally

That is too much money to 'gamble' on that the cue will have the balance and feel to it WITHOUT trying it for myself before having the cue made.
And a complimenting (woods, colors, rings coordinated) Break/Jump stick to go with it would be nice.

I like the way a lot of Jacoby cues look, but the balance is not quite right for me.

I think I just might take you up on that. I was thinking of getting a Titlist conversion, but couldn't find one with a nice white wrap... seems you've solved my problem!

Any idea if that is a Hoppe Titlist? I've never really learned to tell the difference between the two, other than Hoppe conversions were a little thicker in the butt.

Thanks, and take care,

Couldn't help but look

The Gilbert and Scruggs are nice cues, but I also liked the Skip Weston's cues he had in the $1,500-$1,800 range, then you could get that
break/jump cue and maybe a Justis Prolite 3 x 6 case too .... lol

If you're looking at Titlist conversions, then have a look at this one that Skip did. It's just gorgeous!

Or, this wonderful Mike Webb purpleheart Titlist conversion here:

Scroll down the page, and you'll find my pick if I had that kinda cash to spend..that snakewood Lambros is just stellar!!!!!

Hmm. I think I've settled on getting a Titlist, any other nice looking ones out there? I'm not exactly sure where to look.

Thanks,

Matt:

For God's sake, Man! Don't jump too quickly! Find a Black Boar and a Richard Black and try them both out before you buy! With each of thes cues, the hit will speak for itself. I strongly recommend either type of cue to you.

Please do yourself a favor and try a bunch of cues before you spend your money! Be patient and wait for the cue that floors you!

Pretty sound advice. It sounds like you want to buy a cue to play with, so you should try cues before you buy one. One thing to remember, and I don't care what anyone says, do not think that because you hit with one cue, another cue by the same maker is going to hit the exact same way, not going to happen. Be selective, think resale if you can, loving a cue is like loving a woman, (or a man, if you're a woman, or thats the way you live) a newer better model may appear. When that happens you need to be able to end the commitment and do it with as little loss as possible. Anyways lots to consider.

Joe

There is never a "final cue" but Joe offers some sound advice. Take a lot of test drives and think collectability and the ability to resell- just in case another cue comes around.
