In my hopes for this event, please don't let em crawl on the table. Just because somehow it was forgotten, a human error, doesn't mean it can't be changed and quick. Common sense says, "take care of it". If it was me as the TD I would make it a rule for the 4th round on. Like another poster said, do you have a rule for no drinks or food on the table? Deno, common sense should prevail when something this big is confronted. Hell when I used to gamble and me and my opponent didn't agree on an issue that should of been addressed before we started, we would work it out, either agree on common ground or flip a coin just for that moment, but we would address it immediately then continue play.

Thats what needs to be done. This whole deal has blown up into something it shouldnt. Its not Harriman, Varner, or Paricas fault. Its poor rules and officiating. I cant fault Archer for being upset and feeling disrespected either.
Again, the whole 1 foot on the floor rule is not about making the game more difficult, its about respecting and taking care of the equipment. Its the same reason you dont sit on the rails etc. If I were playing a match later in the round on one of the tables these guys climbed on, and found a dead spot on the rail...... I would be friggin furious. Especially if it cost me a shot or position.
The IPT has been kind of a joke from the beginning, but everyone is blinded by the big dollar signs that they have never seen before in pool tournaments. It makes me curious how much more people are willing to put up with for a payout that may or may not happen. And on the eve of the IPT being sold to a former gangster........ are you really willing to sell your souls, and the soul of the game for greed? Instead maybe, think about organizing a large group of people with the focus of finding respectable funding, and a way of promotion and starting a respectable league for the professional players, and have some people who can moderate it to avoid infighting and the implosions such as happened too many times in the past with other organizations.
Just my observations.....

This morning it was made known to the remaining players that giddy-up is no longer acceptable.

Joke is on you

Why is it the IPT bashers always say that SOMEBODY ELSE should do things. Go to it. If you don't like it, YOU be the one to organize a large group, YOU find a way of promotion and YOU find a way to moderate. YOU admit that past organizations haven't been successful in organizig the players, we have a guy in KT that has done that and YOU call him a joke. I do believe the joke is on you.

Jokes not on me at all. I have zero faith in Kevin T. is all. His past is well known, and all he is looking to do is turn a profit. Thats his business. Aside from being friends with Mike Sigel, who knows where his interests in pool lie. Kevin hasnt organized a league, he has dangled a carrot. He turned everyones greed into his gains. When he is able to get the money he wants to (when the sale is final) He will be gone. A big part of why previous organizations have failed is the money dries up, or was non existent from the start. CJ Wiley had a good thing going, but when the money wasnt there.... he too folded.
Im telling you right now, the way to get pool on top as a spectator sport is mass appeal followed with advertising dollars. The prize money in most tournament comes from entry fees with an add on by whoever is holding the tourny. But what if the prize money or even players salaries + bonuses for wins etc. was coming from sponsers who want to use your program as a vehicle to increase their bottom line? Pool is sellable to the general public, but putting it in the same old package it always ends up in, is a tired method. Think about a 2 hour program for 1 tournament. The first hour is giving a run down of the matches with highlights and GOOD commentary. Some player profiles etc. The last hour is the final match of the tournament, played like the old PBT platform where the table and the game is the center stage. Come up with a "season", a set number of games/tournaments (theme them if you want to to make them distinguishable), and keep track of points awarded each player to come down to a final superbowl style tournament.
Something like this gets people attention and holds it. You have to keep tuning in to see how your players are doing etc. And there is something at the end..... imagine that.... working towards something. Seems to work for baseball, basketball, and football.... and pretty much every other sport for that matter.
But back to Kevin T...... Hes a freakin con man from the word go. If you are to the point of considering yourself a SUPPORTER and anyone else a BASHER..... you drank the koolaid didnt you? :D

Of course KT is looking to turn a profit, is there something wrong with that? But you didn't get my point. KT stood up and tried something with his money, something no one else has done. The IPT has pulled off something in pool that NO ONE has done. And yet, you seem to think you have all the answers but... YOU aren't doing the work it takes to get it done your way. Are you trying for a consulting job with one of the organizations that went belly up? (Oh, BTW they were trying to make a profit too!)

KT and the IPT has caused more excitement in pool, good or bad than there has ever been. Maybe, just maybe this is the beginning and the next owner will make it better. or maybe, someone else will step up and give the IPT some competition and it might be better yet. Who knows? What I do know is that it would be the same old, same old on this board without the IPT. Yes I applaud KT and the IPT for having a vision and following through on it. That is more than you have done. You may have a vision, but where is the follow through. Guess it's just easier to bash and attack personalities than applaud someone that took the risk and apparently, made it pay off while benefitting the players and the people that appreciate this level of play.

KT! Is that you? j/k :D

The point is this..... it doesnt matter if it was pool, competitive dog poop throwing, or selling books to dying people that promise cures but doesnt deliver.... KT is a con man. You praise him for taking a risk.... it was a small calculated risk. He ran one tournament with 2 players, the favorite to win being a close friend. ;) So in other words... he rented a ball room, chairs, some lights and some cameras.... then sent out invitations. He got in very cheaply to test the waters. He saw that he had a market then proceeded to cash in on it. He got a bunch of people to buy into the hype, which is his best talent by the way, and the rest is history. Now as far as me personally organizing something, since that is what you seem to be stuck on. If I had the contacts, and the desire to do so... I would. But I dont, so I wont. :(
Look beyond the short con. Think about what this is truely doing for the games future..... and quit focusing on what its doing for the players bank accounts. Hopefully it will click. Even though its not a magic trick, you have to look past the smoke and mirrors. Just think about it.

I must be on the dumb side. I thought and thought and nothing clicked, I can't see anything but a better future for the game. What exactly are you getting at? What is this doing for the games future? Please explain instead of generalities. What future do you see?

Associating pool with someone of Kevin T's reputation and now Mr Ho.... is not good for the sport. Pool has long been seen in the public eye as a sleazy, crooked pastime filled with con artists and thieves. To further this image by having KT and a "former" asian mafia boss/drug lord promoting tournaments is borderline disasterous. He is putting forth a very negative image just by association.
Now, couple that with the whole 8 ball (we play by the REAL rules) crap, and making players out to be bad guys or good guys to sell a television program is not going to help either. It makes pool look like a 3 ring circus. It cheapens the game. Take a look at televised snooker (you can find clips on youtube), and see the difference. They are running very professional tournaments/programming. The players are in tuxedos or suits, the atmosphere screams honor and tradition.
The pre-formed model of american pool just televising tournaments is not enough to grab and hold viewers interest (other than pool players). Something else needs to be looked at and tried.
Please though, for the sake of argument.... think about it this way. If it were someone who has a clean respectable past, someone who the public knows and trusted.... came up with the IPT and was putting the same money into it, and making the game seem professional and honorable, you and I would not be having this discussion. But the fact is, no matter how much money KT puts in the players pockets, he is who he is. And that is a con man who would steal the pennies off a dead mans eyes (or the social security check out of a sick elderly persons bank account) for nothing more than personal gain. He has no interest in improving pool, helping the image or furthing the sport. He is there to milk what he can out of it and ride off into the sunset with your money in his pocket. It is nothing to him but a money making venture. Alot of people are just too greedy, and now that the money is flowing they are wanting theirs, no matter the future reprocussions.
