During a tournament at the Hardtimes, I was watching Kieth for the first time - when he came back to SoCal. I bet on him from the rail and was shocked to see that when he failed to run out and left an appearant out to the opponent, he would rake the balls and rack for the the next game.
If I had gotten a game/s on the wire, I would have rather that he would wait to see if the opponent would miss and win that game. This confused me. This was also before playing "safe" was prevalent - not his style.
Later, another player explained that by raking the balls, it denied the opponent time at the table to get in stroke - clever move; or was that just his style?
Later I noticed that Mark Tadd would do thee same thing.
Because of this, I believe, they required that each player play the game
out - for the benifit of those that bet on games?
Keith is the most entertaining player in the game - keen wit.
You're correct, Mark and Keith in many matches would just rake the balls with 3 or 4 balls still on the table. I don't believe it was to keep them from getting into stroke but just to get the next game started.
Both of these guys felt that they were just going to overpower their opponents with their skills which they usually did. Almost like playing the nine ball ghost.
