I think I would go three rails towards the 7 and really try and hit the 4th rail(side rail) so that it misses the 7 and leave it the cue under the 7. More trying to intentional foul than making a good hit, but if it turns out skimming the 7 then its a bonus.

Just a thought and just trying to play damage control, no matter what, you have a tough shot.

Apparently you didn't hit the five quite thin enough. That would have been my choice though too.
The 3 rail kick Lou suggested is good too if you're confident about getting behind the 7, but shooting it off the rail like that would have been scary. Hell if you never gave up a shot, you'd soon find yourself playing alone!
For once I was the other guy, but I would have tried the same shot. It was too close to the 8 for comfort, but makeable (I think).

go off the 12 first to move it out of the way.the target is off the 12 slide the cue under the 5 rail first back to the rail and bump the 10 up table a little.that way you send the 12,5 and 10 uptable leaving the cue on the rail.

I dan't know. I think I'm kicking three rails behind the seven.

Lou Figueroa

That would be my shot also and play to hit it thin or miss it as Maries husband said. Thats an easy shot for anyone who practices kicking.
The jacked up and bank shot if you don't get lucky leaves the 1 ball carom off the 10 and opens the balls up without giving up anything. I don't know about anyone else but a "perfect" shot is a lot easier for me when it's free than if I sell a bunch of balls or the game out with it. If I know I am shooting the wrong shot and do it anyway I usually get just what I deserve.

3 rails is good if the player really knows the table. Otherwise it might be easier to kick uptable off the head rail, one or two rails behind the 7. The bank would be viable if the CB weren't froze to the rail.

I like the carom of the stripey to get tight behind the five. Though I must admit my vision is far greater then my skill!

Chris

Why not shoot the rail first ticky with high right on the 5 ball so you can just spin over behind the 7 and stripe and take away the chance of an accidental bump. Is a pretty simple shot to execute without bringing the scratch into play.

I thought that's what Lou meant - the third rail being the foot rail under the 7. I'd try to miss the 7, take the scratch and stay short of the pocket.

The bank would be viable if the CB weren't froze to the rail.
I'd never shoot it jacked up. I'm stupid but not suicidal.

If I was going to play under the five I'd do it this way rather than off the 12, but I really don't like it either way. The downside for hitting the 5 too full or too thin is too costly, especially given the inaccuracy (for me anyway) of using top sidespin off the rail.

"Whiskey please!"

You gotta get your "steak horse" some Jack Black before you saddle up for this shot....here goes, once saw McCready do somethin similar to this, "come firm, high right (about 1:30 or 2 o'clock) of the rail with the rock, drivin the 8 into the back edge of the 10, on line to pocket it off the 7, sendin the rock to the opposite side rail on line with the second diamond, but stopin slightly above center of the 11, 8 heads toward the 11 and 7 heads on a line towards the 3, pocket the 10, it's gonna at least get you outta the break, so your emphasis has to be on doin just that. Hit this right, break's headin the other way along with the momentum!"
Miss it---------
