One Pocket Lessons

I've been getting my lessons on game at a time. I grew up in PHX and my sister lives in Peoria, next time I'm in Phoenix I'll look you up.

Where do you normally play?

There is also an Accustats video with Dick and Cliff Joyner too.Well I certainly need to gain some knowledge and moves since my shooting ability is so damn bad. :o
 
I would take a lesson a week!

do you have any plans to be close to Dallas? I know several 1hole addicts that would all take lessons from the great SJD! As for myself, I would take at least a lesson a week from now till oh...say.. the end of time?:grin:

Advanced One Pocket Lessons; now available.

I am now offering quality lessons in the proper approach to the game of One Pocket.

Lessons will be, by appt. only, at my home, on my refurbished Brunswick Crown III, with new rails and new Simonis 860 cloth. I have video capability and feel that I can improve your one pocket game much better in my comfortable game room, than is possible in a pool room with its many distractions. I could make myself available at other venues, also by appt. only, with travel costs additional.
There is no hourly rate. I have broken the game down into three segments.

Lesson 1. The Beginning Game.
This teaches proper breaking methods, and how to best defend against a good break.

Lesson 2. The Middle Game.
This shows various manuevers, designed to gain the advantage over your opponent.
Shot selection is critical at this stage of the game.

Lesson 3. The End Game.
Learning the end game, usually "up table", is probably the most important part of learning to play winning one pocket.

The cost is $50 per lesson. Satisfaction guaranteed. I am not a "clock watcher" and these lessons could run 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. I want you to learn at your own pace.
I will only accept players who allready have basic pool skills in place. There are many qualified instructors to teach beginners correct stance, bridge, mechanics etc.
I will accept two players at a reduced rate of $75 per lesson ($37.50 per player)
This could be a good way to go. They could play each other, while I critique their shot selection, and point out their options.
All three facets of the game could be crammed into one long session. However I believe that would overload most players powers of retention. Learn all you can absorb about one phase of the game, and then move on to the next.
I would hope most would realize, I do not expect to become wealthy at this endeavor. I think you will find I have a lot to offer, and have a sincere desire to promote the game I have loved, (and taken on virtually all comer's) for over 50 years.
If you live outside the Phoenix metro area, I will work with you to make it an affordable, productive experience.

I hope you don't get discouraged by a slow response...

Dick, I'll gladly pass along your opportunity to the players that I know. Given the complexity of that game, I can see that advanced skills are fundamental to its' execution. The quantity of players in that category just isn't that large, then factor in the economic climate, desire, etc. and the pool gets smaller.....but word of mouth can get around.

It's great to share, and bridging the gap between generations and passing along the heritage of the games is the only way to keep and grow the sport. Great idea, and offer.............

Make that (3) 1P players if you come out Colorado way. Heck, I'll even put you up for a night or two in luxury accomodations.

Just thinking...hmmm, would I be better off playing you $10 games, or even $20 games because 1P is usually such a long game?

Just kidding...I'd love to learn from one of the best. Maybe you could also teach me how to not ruin my stroke by playing 1P.

My daughter, and two grandkids live in Northglenn, (Denver) and I am going to set something up with Frank Burgess, or one of my good friends up there next time we go up to visit. I'm sure you are all aware you have many quality players in Colorado. Is Danny Medina still active ? Some people may not be into giving lessons. My main goal is to improve your game. If I pick up a few bucks in the process, I'll make damn sure you get your moneys worth.

Yes Dave, Frank and I have played several times, but not recently.
I will let you ask him how we played, and the results. ;) Last time I was up there he was building his second "Table Steaks". He's sure done a lot to keep pool alive in the Denver area. Very smart businessman.

Anyone thinking about getting lessons from SJD should jump on it. He's a great instructor and has a surplus of knowledge. He is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and the price is BEYOND reasonable.

I think Bernie said it best, "He has forgotten more than most could ever dream about knowing".

Learning 1-hole will get you better in all the other games.

He is a great guy,the funny thing is he reminds me of Fast Eddie from TCOM. :smile:

Things have really picked up. I've given several dozen lessons thus far and I find myself learning better ways to teach the game with each lesson.
Several guy's are on their 2nd or 3rd time back. It is very gratifying to see the improvement in their game.
For you out of state guys (Colo.,Texas, So Cal.) I am working with people in your areas to set up clinics which will be even more affordable.
I will keep everybody informed.
