who are the ten best one pocket players ??????
I know the top 4 or 5 but who are the rest?????

Efren............Efren............Efren............Efren............John Schmidt.........Efren............Cliff........Efren............Grady ............and Efren!

Gabe Owen, Scott Frost, Richie Rich, John Schmidt, who else would be in the top ten excluding Efren, Cliff, Shannon, Parica, ?????????????????????????????????????????????

Buddy Hall, Jeremy Jones, Nick Varner.....Corey Deuel has had some success in one pocket tournaments, as has Alex Pagulayan.........id really like to see one pocket become as popular as 9 ball but im not sure if it will in our short attention span generation.........Grady has a 1 pocket and straight pool tourney comin up in Sept which should be great for fans of those games

Check out the Accu-Stats site, http://www.accu-stats.com , and browse the the one pocket tapes they have listed.

It has been a couple of years since they taped a OP tourney, but it is still interesting to see who has been beating who over the years at the tourneys.

A lot of the names already mentioned in this thread show up repeatedly. Plus a few names that you don't hear that often, but you hear about them every now and then making thier presence known.

John Schmidt is a champion, but he can't compete with top one pocket players consistently. Corey has always been a gambler, and he only matches up one pocket games against guys who have trouble running 3 balls. I don't think he is in the top tier either. When you guys mentioned Gabe and Scott and Richie, you were on the right track, although my money would be on Varner, JJ, Parica and Shannon. I've never seen Efren play in person. The best I've ever seen, and played, is Cliff. Ronnie is too old, drunk and paranoid to play consistently, although he reads the stack better than anyone I've seen, including Cliff.

One Pocket... Shannon Daulton is a great 1 pocket player.. nick varner... Shawn Putnam is awesome 1 pocket!... lots of um.. but seem to be a dieing breed

in my opinion:

1. Efren
2. Cliff
3. Parica
4. Scott Frost
5. Shannon Daulton
6. Nick Varner
7. Allen Hopkins
8. Bill Incardona
9. Grady Mathews
10. Steve Cook

the last 5 you listed are not in the top ten. and scott frost can't beat shannon dalton.

I beg to differ. Scott Frost is a phenomenal one pocket player. Nick Varner is subject to beat any of the 'top 5' at any given time with his pinching and squeezing. Speaking of pinching and squeezing, Allen may be able to wear out some of the best of them at one hole. Billy and Grady happen to be excellent pocket a piece players, especially for the cash. Steve Cook too, but I will admit that 1 of the 7-10 players should be knocked off and Bustamante should go in the top 3 somewhere. He has been, or was I should say, playing jam up one hole for big cash in Philadelphia a few months ago. And speaking of Philadelphia, let us not forget Jimmy and Petey Fusco, Jimmy was great in his time, and Petey isn't playing too bad either. It just occurred to me that Stalev should also bump one of the 7-10 players, maybe the list should look like this:

1. Efren
2. Bustamante
3. Joyner
4. Parica
5. Frost
6. Daulton
7. Stalev
8. Varner
9. Hopkins
10. Incardona or Matthews

The last three may be getting older and have less fire power than the others, but remember, sometimes slow and steady wins the race, especially at One Pocket.

Both Billy and Grady have been beaten by players that I have beaten. That may be flawed logic, but that's enough for me to say that they don't belong in the top ten. I saw Busta play once, and I don't think he's close to Parica in one hole skills.

1. Efren
2. Cliff
3. Parica
4,5,&6. Varner
4,5,&6. Jeremy
4,5,&6. Shannon
7. Harriman
8. Hall
9. James Walden (does he still play?)
10. Richeson, Owen, or Frost

At a tournament a couple of months ago, Gabe beat Richie getting some small spot, but the spot wasn't necessary.

Frost has incredible fire power. Gabe can split the wicket, too. I like Gabe's game because he seems able to trap you in a lot of different ways.

Ok, I give up on the Matthews/Incardona. I always seem to leave a player out. Jeremy Jones definitely belongs in the list.

One Pocket

For the "OVER THE HILL" gang. How about the top ten, all time.

1. Ronnie Allen
2. Eddy Taylor
3. Efren Reyes
4. Kenny Rhomberg, I know, Kenny Who? Ask Ronnie. He knows.
5. Grady Mathews
6. Leonard Rucker "Buggs"
7. Steve Mizerak
8. Buddy Hall
9. Clyde Childress
10. Sonny Springer

the over the hill group should also include, or could also include:

Cornbred Red
Jack Breit/Jersey Red
Jimmy and Petey Fusco
Maybe Boston Shorty?
Bill Staton
Strawberry Brooks

I know that I am forgetting somebody......

Efren over the hill?!?!

How can you possibly put Efren on the "Over the Hill" list?! Do you know of someone who can beat him playing one pocket?

over the hill

You misunderstand the principal. It's not PLAYERS necessisarily over the hill. It's the people who are old enough to have seen the top players of all time. Of course Efren is not over the hill. He is one of the best ever.... As a matter of fact, 4 of the players on my list are dead. Now that's over the hill.
