One Pocket Situation

your opponent has 7 balls, and you owe 3 due to earlier fouls etc.
At what point are the balls you owe spotted so you have enough balls to finish your run to 11?
Seems like I would have to play position on the spot area as I pocketed the eighth ball. Would the 3 balls all spot up at once also? thanks

If you make eight in a row, then all three would spot up together. Nice shooting!

Never give up, I once won a game needing 16 and my opponent needed only one for 300.00 a game. That game really broke his spirit and I one six in a row after that for a nice little score:eek:

To keep on point, like Jay said, they spot up after they are made and if you make all eight you spot all three at once.

What Jay said. When there is nothing left to shoot at - AND if it is still your turn, you spot them all up at that time.

A quick read of the RULES might also help ;)

9.2 Any penalty balls owed by the shooter, or balls pocketed in a neutral pocket, are to be spotted at the end of the shooter's inning. However, if a player runs off all the balls on the table without reaching a winning score, then all such balls are spotted immediately (all at once, not one ball at a time), and the shooter continues their inning. At no other time in One Pocket are balls spotted during any shooter's ongoing inning.

Yep, it doesn't seem fair to the shooter, but thems the rules. I remember one time playing a guy I was faced with a similar situation where I had run all of the balls on the table and still needed three. We argued about what the ruling should be for a good ten minutes, because neither one of us were sure what the rule was. I was lucky I ended up winning the argument and the three balls were spotted individually and I played shape for each one.

I know now it's the rule, but I still don't think it's right. Seems like a penalty for someone who's in the middle of a great inning.

It does seem somewhat a penalty, however you can at least play position on the last ball for a nice bank to your pocket. Not so bad if you remember how many are coming up. Thanks again for posts on the subject. ;)

wrong. think of it as interest on the 3-ball debt you've been carrying all game. maybe you should stop paying off one owed ball with another owed ball.

Well, I'd say it was both of our faults for not knowing the rules. It's not like I was trying to get over on someone over a technicality. I'm sure you're aware, the longer you play pool, you get some good rolls and you get some bad rolls. That was obviously one of my better rolls. Believe me, I've had my fair share of "disagreements" go the other way. You being from San Antonio you probably know who it was, Jimmy "Vegas" Moen. Surprising that neither one of us knew the rules.
