One Pocket

Kicking skills are VERY important in onepocket
i dont understand why you would say what you did 🤔
Kicking is very important in one pocket ...do it all the time
When the cue ball is on your side of the stack and he has a ball near his pocket
Dont you have to kick at it?
comes up all the time
you’re not thinking of all the other times you need to kick, aside from kicking to pocket a ball.

this sounds like a danny deliberto quote for sure
et cetera, et cetera, et cetera

After almost a year, I finally found it! The quote I referred to in Post 12 above can be found in Buckzapper's "signature" and soyale was right, it was Danny Diliberto who said it:

"Never kick in One Pocket, unless you're mad at your backer." Danny Diliberto

My memory is like Swiss cheese -- old, full of holes, and stinks, but pieces of it hang on forever.

That statement by Danny was true several decades ago, but Efren changed all that.

Nowadays, if you don't kick, you're mad at your backer. There are now many, many situations where kicking is the default shot because guys have practiced them and they are favorites to do something good.

I have never played one pocket. What would be the best way to learn the game and play? Thanks

Dr. Daqve did a Basic One Pocket video, it coupe most of the point need to know. Leaning is good question. Both RailBirds TV, and Accustate have lot of DCC Matches. Watch n learn. Last find someone will to play with you and give you pointers.

i remember a match between corey and joyner where danny and billy said things along those lines, but they soon realized corey wasn't mad at his backer. you're right efren changed the game and i would argue that scott frost brought another level of aggressive play

that's true, and one pocket will up your kicking game - you better learn to kick the defensive three railer or you're toast. i think he meant one rail kicks to singular balls though, which is a good rule to follow.
I'll agree with this.

That damn ball on the short rail near your opponents pocket...you canNOT kick it in!

Just like the 28766 times before.

And there is kicking at your ball, and kicking into the pack to take a foul.

I have always been a banking and kicking fool. When I first learned pool, if it was flashy and trashy -- say ripped bottom for shapes or a smoking hot, cross-side bank -- best just back out of my way < Young BB pauses to chalk and surreptitiously glances about to ascertain who's watching >. A lot of folks could beat my game, but no one looked as good as I did while playing -- winning or losing. Oh, the folly of youth . . .

My 1P mentor was an old school, big city, pool hall type -- picture apron over tailored suit -- and played a very tight 1P game. It seems he would read my mind when the siren song of a dead kick was about, and his admonitions were couched like "not no, but uh-uh". Most other shots were subject to debate or, at least, discussion, but kicks were a "hard no". Right or wrong, it is how I learned, and it has stayed with me.

If I'm playing a guy who can't kick, I'm betting high.

Bet you stole your daddy cue and made a living out of playing pool.

Probably paid for college too
