O'Neil Case

Obviously a case with an O'Neil label is an O'Neil.

Obviously.

The question is regarding those without.

The tweed case I had did not have a label. But the label is just a sricker.

The one I had was identical in every way to two other cases I have that do have the sticker, except it was tweed covered.

One of those other two cases I have has a label that is half peeled off. The remainder does not seem tightly adherent. I can't imagine the labels were very durable stuck to that rough tweed.

You say you have two that are missing hardware. Apparently not the same as the cases we are seeing pictures of here. And you said Mark says they were not O'Neil. OK. They are not.

You also said your cases are not as thick.

The one I had certainly was as thick.

I have no reason to think mine was not an O'Neil.

I believe the one posted earlier in this thread is as well.

True, but in some time periods, they did not use a label. I have a two by two, and a three by three that does not have the label, or if it was just a sticker, I would have peeled it off. Mine were bought in the 90s, or there could have been some variation.

And, they are definitely O'Neils, no other case maker made them like that. For hardware reference, my two by two has two latches, and my three by three has three latches, one in the middle. I don't have labels or stickers on either at the present.

All the best,

Hmmm It’s crazy after all my years playing I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this case maker. Definitly made in a classic fashion and the quality looks excellent.

does this help?

All the best,

So to summarize.....no more O'Neil cases unless you can find old stock somewhere or a used one.

Or you can get a Chinese made crap one.

The last time I spoke with Mark from O'Neil cases, he was hoping to move his shop and continue making cases, but I have not been able to get in touch with him.

There are a lot of O'Neil cases out there and in more sizes and configurations than you can imagine. Most of the used ones I've seen were in very good to excellent condition.

Anyone with an O’Neil hard case that wishes to sell, please send me a PM.

Thanks!

I called them and they only have a 1x2 and 1x1 case available.
I just bought the last 1x1 case they had on 3/28/18 . I wanted the 1x2 but they had just sold it.
This is the plain black case without the sticker.
I don't need the 1x1 so I'll sell it for what I paid - $60 + $15 shipping.
It's still brand new & unused, and I have the receipt from Aurora Billiards in Melbourne Fl.

If anyone is interested $75 shipped & I'll cover any PP fees.
I can't post pics here but PM me an email or text # and I'll take all the pictures you may want.

Not Sure?

I'm thinking the 3 cases in front of this pic are O'Neils, just not sure.

Thank You

Thanks for your response. Are there any identifiers on O'Neil cases that I can look for?

The black ones are a possibility, but only that. The blue one, likely no.

The blue one is one that AE Schmidt and probably some others sold back in the 80s or so. I believe McDermott marketed a version of it too, probably same maker, whoever it was.

The way you can tell are the wide legs on the bottom of the case, not the way O'Neil did it. If they are round chrome balls, then it could be an O'Neil.

All the best,
WW

I thought I should explain a bit with a picture what I meant. The legs, or feet on the case are a strong indicator, and the blue one on top in my picture is not an O'Neil. It was sold by AE Schmidt in the 80s or so, as well as other sellers. Nice case though. Quite a few were blue. The bottom is an O'Neil, and every O'Neil case I have has rounded chrome-type feet, as opposed to the oblong ones on the one above. Lighting isn't the best, but hope that explains it.

All the best,
WW
