Onepocket, how can you watch it?

We have many one pocket players in Edmonton, maybe it's because you live in Calgary where everything is fast paced and full of bling.

Oh yeah, I've played one pocket in Calgary too.
The last time I seen someone play 1pocket was at Scona billiards.:p That place was great as a teen.We used to hide our beverages out in the back alley in the snow.LOL.
Pea pool or golf was the billiard game back then.:D

What type of one pocket game do you play? I play a very aggressive and creative game. If you play a game of putting all the balls at the top of the table and never make an aggressive move then the game can be boring to play. If you know how to play, it is far from a boring game. I don't really want to watch bad players either, but good players are a lot of fun to watch.

I second the op. But I'll expand and say watching 9-ball, 8-ball, one-pocket, straight pool, 3cb, and virtually every other cue game is similar to watching grass grow. The exception is the trick shots which are always cool to see. The same goes for golf, mini-golf, bowling, darts, chess, and many other sports/games.

I don't see the point in watching pool when I can just go play a little.

I used to love to watch One Pocket. But then I had to go cover an event and had to report on a match between (if I remember correctly) Buddy Hall and Marco Marquez. It was a race to three games. The first rack took seven and a half hours and it ruined me for the game.

Actually, I could love it again very easily with the insertion of a single rule: "It is legal for the players to push the balls uptable, away from their pocket, as a defensive strategy. It shall also be legal for any fan to shoot the player who does so." :)

I do appreciate the defensive ballet of One Pocket. But there is a limit to how long one's butt can sit on steel bleachers.

longest game i saw was 2:45 it was a up table game 3 times, it was a $$$ game a few hundred,

Because it is one of the few sports you can learn by just watching. One thing all great players will have in common. They all hung with good players when they were learning. Hang around a good action room for a year and your game will shoot up without a doubt.

You learn more by playing.

I like watching one-pocket because I think it's the most interactive game to watch. The layouts and the shot possibilities are really numerous, so as a lesser player, I decide what I would do in that position, watch how they play it, then try to reason out why their shot might've been better or worse. There's plenty more chance to learn something as compared to 9-ball where the options for routes are generally limited outside of safety play.

Ok I've been watching Tony play Adam smith, and I'm about asleep now so I'm turning my computer off for awhile to wake back up!

There is a difference between watching on your computer and sitting in a room at 4 in the morning watching two good players play for a thousand a game and kibitzing on the side with other knowledgeable players.

Archer wont play it he says "slow ass boaring game". and how good would he be if he played it??? even if he couldnt move the fire power alone would beat alot of 1P players, everyone but the top 1P guys. And he WONT ever play it.

Rodney Morris doesn't play the game either, atleast he said so when I asked him to play during Interpool Open in Sweden this year. I thought that finally I got a chance to play the game against a top American player, but with my luck it was no surprise that he didn't like the game. He said he could play 9-ball or 10-ball, but I only wanted to play one-pocket so I found another opponent.

I love to watch this game, and play it, but if it is turning into an uptable match with not so good players I will go watch paint dry.

I know I'm gonna take heat for this, but how can people watch one pocket, it is sooooo boring! I tried to watch Gabe and Parica playing, and I literally about fell asleep in my chair!
It is like slow death, and i just don't understand the attraction!

It's more of a participant sport as opposed to a watching type sport. I'm just starting to get some interest in it so someone like me would find watching interesting b/c of the learning factor. JMO

Hmm...well I'll be at Antiques tonight. You stop by and we'll play some. When was the last time you played snooker?? We have real tight table up here.

You obviously don't play one pocket. Its like a miniature golfer who can't understand why anyone would want to play the real game and have to learn all those shots.

Well played mon frere.

I love watching all my accustat 1p dvd's and tapes, especially ones with Buddy Hall, Efren and Steve Cook. I can't work up the same enthusiasm for 9 ball though, unless it's top level. Not too crazy about 14.1 either.

Different style of 1P on the Left Coast

Sometimes you get to see something extrodiary.

I watched Tony Chohan win a match against Warren Kiamco. Warren bolted out to a 3-1 lead in a race to 7. Warren was hitting every bank. Then Warren missed 1 bank, Tony went 8 and out. Next game Warren missed a bank, and Tony went 6 and out. The match was over in less than 90 minutes with the score 7-3 Tony.

I also got to see Tony win 3 games of One Pocket in 12 minutes.

Tony Chohan's final match against Francisco Bustamante a few years ago, at our Summer Jamboree, lasted less than 2 hours with the score being 5-4 Busty. BTW, the first 4 games were over in 45 minutes.

Not all matches are short. But in Sacramento when Billy Palmer and Tony Chohan play, it can get to be an 8 and out game rather quickly. One little mistake.. .and poof... game over.

You'd miss that if you weren't looking.

Unfortunately, Antiques is located in Colorado Springs, CO about 900 miles from Kolby's. And I think I need at least 9-7 from you.
