Open Or Closed?

Open or Closed Bridge?

This is a poll to the forum .I'd like to know what type of bridge you all prefer. Open bridge or a closed bridge? I often times use both depending on the amount of power, spin or finesse the shot requires.

Btw,my closed bridge is of the "lock" variety. The index finger is curled over the shaft and resting on the middle finger for maximum power and control.

What are your thoughts AZ.

I try to use an open bridge for most shots, but I use the same type of closed bridge you describe for many shots where I need a little extra oomph.

They have invented a SEARCH button here: please apply to it!

p.s. depending on the shot: long shots, soft shots, accurate shots, snooker = open bridge;

> med-hard speed, high velocity, draw shots, Carom Billiards = Closed Bridge

Thank You!

I'm sorry Walt. What did you say? I'm having trouble reading here. My eyes keep wandering North, and thinking funny thoughts. Bridge? You said something about a bridge? What's a bridge?

closed bridge for center ball and below shots, open bridge for anythign above center for most shots. a closed bridge can interefer with my sight line on above center hits, so then only on power shots. Closed bridge for breaks. I use whatever feels comfortable for the shot at hand, don't really ever think about which one to use.

3 for 1 I'll take that.:D :D

Back on topic for just a minute. We teach 5 different bridges in pool school (6 if you count the mechanical bridge). Which one you use depends on the shot you are making.

OK...Back to the avitar swap!
Steve

If it's just an average shot, I'll almost always used an open. If it's near a rail but not near enough to bridge off the rail, then I'll almost always use a closed.

5, there are. But I voted closed. I used a closed until it is required to use another... It's a default.

Lou Butera said it best many years ago, and I never forgot it. "Pool is a game of stances and bridges."

What he meant is that there are many stances and bridges a player must use when playing pool. There is not one better way to hold a cue or stand at the table. We are constantly having to find a way to reach a shot with a unique stance and hold the cue with a different bridge.

I agree with Lou on this one.
