Opinion on best Lathe

Just building my wood shop and want the best I want the work so what do I need to build cues? What is the best Lathe? Do I need different machines for ringwork, inlays, wraps, tapers or anything else? Also what is a cnc machine. Sorry for my lack of experience here Im a glass blower by trade and I have always been into wood work. Any responses would be greatly appreciated

There is no such thing as best for all cue makers. Each maker has his own abilities, limitations room for equipment, machinist knowledge, other machine tools etc. etc. As has just been stated, a large CNC turning center would really come in handy in building cues and other related jigs. Many like the small cue lathes as they don't take up much room and they come almost ready to use out of the box. Others, like myself, prefer full size lathes as they are cheaper in the long run and, in conjunction with a mill, you can build all of your accessories and jigs yourself. These, however are much larger and heavier so you need more room plus you must adapt them to cue construction which is very easy but you need to have some clue going in to do this. The use of a larger lathe is not a turn key operation but will greatly repay the initial time invested in the long run. I have an Enco lathe that I bought in 1992 and I am still on the first quart of oil I bought to lube it. After my first problems caused from not properly cleaning it when first set up I haven't had to put .50 cents into it since.

Cue assembly, 40" between centers lathe.
Ringwork and inlays? CNC mill imo.
Wraps? You can do that on the 40" lathe.
Taperer? Dedicated tapering machine.
