opinion on shafts

just wanted an opinion from cuemakers:

after spending so much time turning down shaft wood, getting your taper just right, putting the tip/ferrule on, polishing the shaft, getting the rings to match w/ the butt, etc etc etc.

when the customer ends up getting a predator, ob1, etc to replace yours, does that in any way irk you? as in, if you were going to get one, just order the butt alone or provide the new shaft upfront.

analogy: going to a nice $$$ steakhouse (peter lugers in nyc, grill 23 in boston for example) and asking the chef for steaksauce.

It's my steak and I'll eat it anyway I want to.
If the chef doesn't like it, I'll buy my steaks somewhere else.
It's an analogy.

Now, you may put tons of time and effort into your shafts, and that's fine.
Maybe the client also wants an L/D shaft to play with and keep the orig. unplayed. Is that going to upset you?
How about this. When he orders his L/D shaft, he settles for a simple black collar.

At the end of the day, you have no say in the matter. You gave him the cue for X# of $$. You can no more tell him what to do with the cue than he can tell you what to do with the money. That's part of the deal.

Sorry for being blunt but it makes the point a little easier to digest.
Now I'm hungry.

What KJ said is right on the money, The only solution for some makers is to, Offer your own shafts in different levels based on deflection. You can accept, or adapt but never condemn.

You can also stock Predator and OB1 partials, and then spend time on them getting the rings to match, putting on a tip and ferrule, polishing, etc. when they are requested.

It would irk me somewhat, especially if i worked with the customer to get the taper they wanted specifically (don't know why more q makers dont do that, or advertise as such)....but then again they paid already so who cares.

Now when it comes to my cooking....thats a good way to get shoved out my door. I don't cook like Barry makes cues to have some dumb SOB put A1 all over a steak. Or throw a s*it ton of salt on whatever. If you don't know you better ask somebody. But then again I'm cajun, were the only people recognized as good cooks by the french LMFAO. Ask Scott Lee, I fixed him a plate of what looked like throw up....he stayed 3 extra hours lol.

I offer one shaft taper, with a window of .5mm that you can choose and a .5" length window. I don't even offer a wide range of tips. All of my shafts are virtually the same. That's part of getting a Sugartree & part of why the cues are all very much consistent from cue to cue. If you order a cue from me & an aftermarket shaft is better for you, then why would it bother me? I don't offer a lot of options on a shaft & don't change my taper for anybody, so I can't expect to fit everybody. I'm ok with that.

If I were to go above & beyond with fitting the shaft to the player's liking then maybe it would bother me, but prolly not.
