Obviously a nylon or dacron variation. No linen would look like that. Most important to look at the white portions, where they shine so much. It's the result of plastic.

Thanks, the seller is adamant it is real linen. I wanted to confirm my thoughts here, and you did. It is probably great ocean fishing line, though!

If you stand real far away...wearing dark glasses...looking through frosted glass...after downing a fifth of Rum...and blur your eyes...it's Dacron.

Have you tried the burn test? Natural fibers will leave ashy residue while synthetics will melt and ball up. Related hot pin tests works for bone/ivory vs plastic.

He said it melts, it doesn't burn, so it must not be synthetic.
