Would you take advice from someone who can't beat you nor has never had any achievements in your sport?

You need to take Ginky's advice.

The best player is not always the best instructor. This is especially true in pro golf. David Leadbetter is the premier swing instructor in the game. Tiger Woods has Butch Harmon. I'm not certain but I don't believe Leadbetter or Harmon ever won a tournament. If they did, they were never a household name as a golfer.

The big difference is that the mechanics and execution are two totally different things.

The other big factor is what you have in your "gut" and "between your ears". I'd guess that Ginky would agree that he's probably beat as many players with his gut and with his head as he has with his cue.

most definitely, depending on the scope of the advice.
For example, there was a guy in our pool room I could the last 3 to in 9ball, so I probably wouldnt have taken pointers on my stroke from him, or position play..........but he was an awesome jumper. He could unscrew the shaft and jump from about a 3/8'" gap, jumped with a jumpcue, when it came to jumping this kid had it down because he thought jumping was cool and had practiced it like crazy. One day i saw him over there jumping and i said "hey teach me how to do that." And he was just thrilled to be teaching someone who was a better player, he gave me all the info he had and i was jumping in no time.
You can usually learn something from almost anybody........to just close your mind off because that person cant beat you or never won a tourney or something, it makes you a poor student of the game. Also it works in reverse....some guy whos awesome, youre going to listen to him just cuz hes won some tourney or he can beat you, maybe he dont know crap, maybe what hes telling you only works for him, but youre going to give his advice more weight. I try to learn from everyone.

never take business advice from someone who makes less $$$ than you do. however just listing to them, if you have time and not acting on their advice cant hurt.

There is a ton of knowledge to learn in pool. We all learn different things in different ways. I'm an APA 9 in 9 Ball and was ranked 3rd in 2003 at Nationals and I can play a little. I recently picked up a tip on the 8 Ball break that I didn't know from a player I could give the 7 ball to in 9 Ball.

There's always something to learn in this game and a different perspective on playing could help your game. LISTEN, YOU MAY LEARN SOMETHING.

Listening to what people say is the single most important skill anyone can ever learn. Individual perception is what truly separates skill levels, more so than mechanics.

Mechanics can be easily taught to most people, if they are willing to dedicate the necessary time to learn. How individuals perceive Pool and billiards is in some cases very unique, and can not be taught readily or easily, and this perception is what separates good from great!!!!

When you understand the importance of listening you can only learn.

There is always something to be learned from another player, reguardless of his ability level, look at efren Reyes, he's the perfect example of this, he learned shots from guys who were everyday guys going into his local green room, and although many of them would play crazy shots, just for the fun of it, but it was still enough for efren to learn those shots and eventually become possibly greatest pool player ever :)

As far as I'm concerenced, in the 20+ years of playing that I've done, TWOFORPOOL, Athena and Ginky have pretty much summed it up perfectly :)
