Ive been shooting with schons and predators throughout my pool career.. I cant decide if i want to shoot purchase another predator or a custom cue. The thing is that i know the hit of a predator and am very happy with it, however, i would like to have a cue that is original. The problem I'm facing is that for the money of a custom cue i do not know how they hit! Many look fantastic however, i haven't hit with anything other than a mike miller. Please give me some input on some custom cues that hit great that are in a range of up to about 1500, and if you are selling any please reply with pictures.. thanks a lot!!
mark :)

Welcome to the forum. I shoot with a Mottey and a Predator shaft, but if
your gonna buy a custom, I believe that you would have a very hard time
beating this deal. From what I've read, Jensen cues hit very very good. A
custom like this one for $ 850 shipped overnight, is a phenomenal deal.
Just my opinion.

ahh i see you play with a tascerella.. i actually was in a pool league with him and his son this past year, and he did my wrap on my schon.. I would certanly do that but the c4 technology is one thing that i love about the ikon series, i love the solidness of the hit. So im concerned about not gettin a true enough predator hit..

i played with predator for a long time and just switched back to strait grain maple about 3 months ago and cant be happier!
my tasc hits very solid and i dont think i will ever find a production cue with a hit anywhere close!

I would guess you have shot pool for a descent amount of time & shooting in a pool league with Tascarella & his son. You would think that you should of tried more custom cues out besides a miller like a Tascarella for starters...lol!!! Well anyway I like stiff hitting cues & here are few that no production cues can't touch in your price range that I've shot with & personaly own: Scruggs, Bluegrass, Bender, Southwest but may need to add a few hundred for a Southwest but sometimes you run up on a plain jane player in that price range. I'm waiting on a Sugartee cue that should be here this week & I heard they have a nice stiff hit, so you couldn't go wrong with his cue as for all the positive remarks from other players on this forum. Good luck in your search...!!!

pool is a dying breed around here.. and if anyone shoots its usually with a production cue. Also i hate when people ask me to try my cue out, the fact of others even holding it drives me crazy lol.. so i feel strange asking anyone else to try out theirs. I will say that the mike miller that i have, has one of the most solid hits ive ever played with, only as far as appearance its not one I am proud of. If you are selling a custom cue in the range of $1500 or less please private message me a picture, and tell me how the hit compares to that of a predator.
thanks again

might want to check out a coker cue, well within your price range and they are a very stiff hitting cue, i played with one for years and just recently sold it to a freind of mine who played with a predator and he seems to love the feel and hit..if that helps ya!

call Michi coker 916 383 4410. Ask for the old growth shaft. Nice people and Tom makes a hell of a cue. Tell Michi jay harper sended you. I love mine!

I have grown to love straight grain maple and will probably never play with anything else.

I play with a Cory Barnhart cue.

Aren't predators being made in China now?

As far as $1500... that is plenty of money to have one of these fine cuemakers in the U.S. make you something nice in your own specs. You could get something like a Sly, a Carolina Custom, a Coker, a TNS, an Espiritu, a Phillippi... that Jenson someone posted earlier (really really nice). The thing about ordering it yourself for yourself is you can match things up to what your used too. You can specify the joint that you like, that way the feel is similar. You can have the cue maker match up a predator shaft with your new cue so that it looks flawless... but it will still play like what you are used to. And, you'd get two shafts... the predator shaft and a regular shaft so you can experiment to see which works better for you. If I was you, I might see if Tascarella would make you something simple that would be nice and would be a great first custom cue. Besides, as long as you take care of it... that Tas would hold it's value or increase in value well into the future.

Maybe you could stop by Tascarella's shop and he could let you "test hit" some of the stuff he has there. That's a good way to see if you would like it.

Just my opinion.

I'll second this, I use to own this cue and it cost well over $1500 and plays fantastic to boot. If you want a very solid custom at a fantastic price, this is gonna be tough to beat.

Good luck,

Doug

My opinion, if you like the solid hit of "c4 tech", then I would go for a custom "fullsplice". Blackcreek by Travis is a fantastic cue w/ a solid "fullsplice" hit. There's one on the forum now that is "wrapless" that looks to be a negotiable cue. If wrapless isn't your style, then have Travis make you a custom "Hoppe" style. You won't be disappointed if you like a firm, solid hit.

Edit.... if you like the "action" of Predator shafts, stick one on the end of the Blackcreek!!!

I'll third the motion!

The Jensen cues are very fine hitting cues. If I had the money to spare, I'd already have it! I've been watching it for months, and I'm hoping that work will pick up so that I can get it!
