Opinion Wanted

Based on the posts it seems Purdman never wanted to play in the first place. Based on the information from all the posts it seems like a wise decision on his part to backpeddle like crazy.

Wayne,
I got the other impression. I thought it looked like Purdman wanted Egg to back up his boast about the 12 different racking "secrets". Then Egg wanted to bet on making the wing ball after futzing with the rack (not such a big secret), or play some other game. I still want to see those 12 break shots made. Anyway, it's good soap opera, even if no one remembers how it started.

although you may be getting this message too late, next time you decide to play someone for money and want to keep it a little more friendly, what you should do is play a raced set instead of by the rack. For example, play a 2 races in 9 ball for $50 and have each race go to 5,7 or 9. So the first one to win 5, 7 or 9 games depending on what you agree on wins. This way you can't lose your pants off and know where you stand without getting blown out of the water.

You are correct Doc. It began with the break shots, went to woofing $2000 then to $8000 and then just got uglier. The reason I chose a pool hall an hour away was to get on neutral ground. I have been doing cue repair in this area and can't go play without someone comming up to me. I wanted him to come alone because I didn't want his partner/coach to be there. I have no problem posting up $500. I suggested a place, a time, and how much I would be comfortable to lose if it came to that. No Cuetech, I am not embaresed about this. Egg was told a long time ago that I don't like to or want to gamble. I tossed out the rack bet kinda in jest. Like, oh you read that, now you want to tell me about it, and I will bet you can't do it. More woofing I suppose!!!!
There are two things to keep in mind here, 1) I didn't use his name in my post. 2) I kept the PM's private. People should also know that we have played together twice. Sorry if anybody was offended.
Purdman:cool:
It was good soap!!!!!

Willie, I never said I wanted to bet on those racks. Nor did I call them racking "secrets". I just asked in my post how many people know them. It was in no way a boast. If you want to read about the details, it's in the "rack mechanic" thread I started. That's when Don replied and told me I had action on those racks and kicked this whole thing off.

After you backed out for the 3rd or 4th time, it was obvious that you just wanted to run your mouth. There's no sense in trying to explain this into something it isn't. You nitted out, plain and simple - and not just once, but many times - after some very aggressive talking. Let me just say that this is VERY OBVIOUS in reading this thread (you don't seem to caught onto that fact). There is no sense in even trying to defend yourself.

Is that right? I could have sworn you insisted on playing 20 racks for $25. I can't see why anyone would do that unless they were uncomfortable with losing $500 and trying to minimize potential losses. This seems like a good time to reiterate that I will play you for any money anytime you want and anywhere (provided you bet at least $500 a set). I am available to play RIGHT NOW.

You shouldn't be embarrassed, you should be ashamed. Anyone who reads this thread now knows you're the biggest nit on the planet. Oh and the person you described as one of the biggest losers on the planet exposed you as the biggest nit on the planet. Where does that put you? Maybe you should think about that one for a while.

About your telling me a long time ago that you didn't want to gamble. The first time we played, didn't your friend and you ask me and my friend to gamble? Then the second time gambling came up, wasn't it you that sent me an angry pm out of the blue saying that you wanted to play me for $500? Did I initiate action either of the other times or this time? No. Did you? Yes. SO HOW ARE YOU GOING TO SIT HERE AND SAY YOU'VE TOLD ME YOU DON'T WANT TO GAMBLE WHEN YOU HAVE INITIATED ACTION WITH ME 5-7 TIMES - WHICH IS EVERY SINGLE TIME??? DON, IF YOU DON'T GAMBLE, THEN WHY DID YOU WOOF AT ME. Reading this ridiculous response you've posted makes me want to puke.

That's right Don. I used your name. And you post your name ALL THE TIME. I hope I didn't blow your cover. But, you did use my name in another thread. What happened when I politely asked you to edit my name out of the post? You angrily refused and threw in some pretty malicious material while you were at it. But yeah, keep thinking you're the good guy, Don.

Yes, you kept the pm's quiet - while you started this thread. When I read it, I was livid. I posted earlier in detail why. You post some sympathy thread and call me your "fish" in the thread and expect me not to vindicate myself?? You went way too far. Anyone who reads the pm's can probably at least understand why I posted them, even if it was out of line.

Anytime you want to get together a couple of thousand dollars, come alone, and you got action until one of us is busted Egg. 8 ball, 9 ball, 1 hole,
or straight pool.
Best Regards, Don Purdy

This statement is perfectly clear. Purdman said..ANYTIME!!! A COUPLE THOUSAND...not 25 a rack. To make a clear, unambiguous, statement like that and then to badmouth the recipient of the statement as being the bad guy is an unbelievable example of nittiness. We'd all respect Purdman much more if he owned up to letting his mouth overload his heart.

Well SMURF, you got it. I, Purdman, let my mouth overload my heart. I got $500 worth of heart. I ain't got $2000 or $8000 worth of heart. I also said some unkind things to Egg that I am sorry for. I apologize for that. Egg, I didn't mean to make you livid. I was wrong and I admit it.
Purdman:cool:

you do not have $500 worth of heart. you have $25/rack - at a poolhall 1 hour away so people don't bother you about retipping cues while you play - worth of heart. I have no interest in an apology after all you did and said. If you felt bad about anything you were doing, then this wouldn't have gotten where it is.

He was talking about $2000 to $8000 yesterday. $500 is cheep in that league. He got my goat. He told me I played at a beginner level. I been playing since I was 11 years old. I am 56 now. I was a BCA certified instructor for 5 years. DO NOT call me a beginner. $500 is not a problem.
Purdman:eek:

Yah go get'em i would say, all that experience under your belt man i wished i could be there to watch this match. One question why don't you like to gamble don't like taking money from people or something lol?

Ah yes, gambling is certainly a great thing to add to this trivial game we call pool  It adds real meaning to a silly game

Dave, who hopes everyone recognises the sarcasm 'smiley' but thinks some will miss them and consequently added this note

Can't we all just get along??????

And just where is it??? Don apologized for letting his bullfrog mouth get in front of his tadpole @ss more than once.:o What more do you want. Let us know when your done beating that horse. You're probably a pretty damn good player and you have some heart but you would probably gain more respect here on this forum if you turned the other cheek. just my .02

What I have gotten from this thread ...

1) When all the woofing, wining, crying, and *****ing is done, you either back it up or not. If you don't, then walk away. To quote an old Navy saying, 'don't let your mouth overload your *ss'.

2) I liked both parties before this thread, and still do, but have different opinions of them than before.

3) Just from Egg's username, I had the impression he was in late 20's or early 30's, and not quite as good as he now appears to me. He must be
older somewhat and play better than the impression I had before from his
previous posts. (You don't step up to $500 and up sets UNLESS you can
play).

4) Say what you mean, and mean what you say ..... live by it.

You can hang on to it as long as you wish Jeff. I am letting it go. I apologized and admited that I was wrong. That is all I can do man. You go ahead and do what you have to.
Don

you're right. There's nothing to gain and I'm finally ready to let this go. Frankly, I wanted to bump this thread a couple times so people could get a good look at Don - and also, quite honestly, it felt pretty good to vent.

Regarding #2, aka "can't we all get along?". It's easy to do on these forums, but I don't think one should judge a person by what is written (by him or about him) on the forum. I think everyone (maybe a few exceptions) is much more complex (and generally much more likeable) in person. It's easy to let one strong opinion or comment relegate one to the sh!t house.

Regarding #3, aka "The incredible, but breakable egg". Egg is very good, but he's young and inexperienced, and after a few more times I will surpass him in ability :D. He will not be happy about that, but that's just the nature of the game. I'm learning all his moves. Nevertheless, I will not risk more than $2/game since I could be wrong.:o
