Opinions about some pool books...

What is your opinion about:
The PAT system,
Jack H. Koehler's " The science of Pocket Billiards ".

The PAT system is good for finding your weaknesses and fixing them, but it is probably most useful when used with an instructor.

Koehler's book has a lot of good results. If you're really into the science part, you will get better explanations from Dr. Dave's (David Alciatore) book, Wayland Marlow's book, Ron Shepard's paper or Coriolis's book from 1835, which is available both as a reprint in French or as a very good English translation.

Back in playing regularly in tournaments after years, a player such as myself (average) has to find ways to stimulate himself.
When you have acquired knowledge and experience over the years, along with some good victories, finding competitive drive after a long break may be the most difficult part of really coming back into the game..
Knowledge is there, wisdom is there (everyone gets better over the years even if he/she doesn't feel he/she performs like in earlier days), finding the will to victory (again) is the one I feel is missing from players having long brakes.
Thousands of miles away from you, knowledge coming from good teachers is always appreciated the most..

The PAT booklets are awesome. You must be honest about your play. They will help immensely. I got mine from Bebob.

Does that mean that you found Robin's "Shots, Moves and Strategies," Fel's "Mastering Pool," Byrne's "Advanced Technique," and Bentivegna's "Banking with the Beard" all worthless? Even Richard Holt has something to teach many advanced players, if they would only read his book and try what he says.

I haven't read any of those books to tell you weather they are good or not. They could be useful if you don't already know the information in them. I'm not saying that I do, but I've always been shown a few things I thought could have been expressed on paper, at the table.

So banking with the beard is an advance banking book? Have you read it and are you very proficient at banking?
