Opinions needed on the outcome of league play.

Here's the deal: Last night my bca league wrapped up. During the league they did not post standings or clearly explain how the winner would be determined. This was done in an effort to keep the league fun. Through the league my team assumed the winner would be determined by the total number of points scored, when in reality the winner was determined by the number of rounds won. Although we finished first in total number of points, with the handicapped we finished third. Although the league was set up to be for "fun" there was an incredible amount of sandbagging.

My question is this: Since we finished with the highest number of points do we have any claim to bragging rights for finishing first.

My local BCA/ACS league uses round points as the "main" factor with total points serving as a tiebreaker. This is a handicapped, in-house league at a local pool hall. I'm not sure it's ever gone to the tiebreaker, or at least not near the top of the league.

Uh.... someone else set the rules under which you played and were seeded at the end... they said you did not take first place. No bragging rights.

Next time, someone needs to define how the scoring will be done before the league commences.

You think that you got robbed, but that is not true - according to their specific rules. Don't play in a fun league. Play in a money league.

Odd.

I know of no other league that if they score the weekly matches by rounds, that winning percentage wouldn't be the primary determinating fact. If everyone played the same amount of rounds (no byes), then rounds won would be the simple determination.

Are "points scored" different than "rounds won"? I assume by your question that "points" are the 10-pt per game points. If so, I've only seen those points used as a tie-breaker if the winning percentage was the same between two teams. So, no, IMO, you have no claim.

It seems as if you would determine the winner by rounds won and use points as a tie breaker. This would be the same as if in baseball or football the league championship was decided on most points scored instead of overall games won.

Another unfair way would to count weeks won instead of games. EG your team won the night and it only counted as 1 point instead of how many games were won that night.
