Opinion's Needed

Ask the guy who runs the league if he'd be willing to help you out. Perhaps having a higher authority kick him out of the league for his unsportsmanlike conduct could absolve you of the burden of removing him. Its tough to ask someone else to do the dirty work for you but it sounds like anyone who's been within earshot of this guy would understand.

This way he's out and your friendship remains in tact.

Most of your replies are trying to be sensitive, which is okay, but as you said, he's had 3 years and still is the same.

You tell him the team is trying to make it to Vegas. You tell him he is the weak sister on the team and that his losing plus his antics is hurting the team's chances to go to Vegas. Tell him he will always be your friend, but you're sorrry but you have to have a stronger player on the team, plus one that has the right attitude towards improving.

And end it by saying we are dropping you from the team for next session, but will keep you as a sub.

And do you really want a friend who acts like an ass all the time? What does that say about you? Sounds like Tony hasn't grown up.

JAW, are you also on the team or are you the OP?

I am also on the team. DJPStacked and I are best mates, we started the team together 4 years ago. Unfortunately I may have to leave the team due to work scheduling, so I may take Tony with me to another night......and help them :)

I feel you. There are guys on my league team I don't want to play with, and they're actually fairly nice guys and straight shooters too. It's awkward.

The weaselly way out is to say you decided to get off the current team and form a new team. Don't tell him the new team is going to be everyone on the old team except Tony. Eventually he will figure it out but by then he will have his own new team.

Second weaselly way out: Say that someone (not you) has told you in private they cannot stand Tony, and wants him off the team, and someone else backed it, and you decided to go along with it rather than break up the winning combination. Refuse to name names. That way you're not the bad guy, you're just breaking the news to him.

Third weaselly way out: Have someone else say the whole team voted and it was 3 to 1, with you being the 1. Could backfire though if he asks you to join him in a new team and split from the guys who voted him off the island.

The honest way out is to just tell him you guys want to try something new, with a 5th guy who has heavy firepower, and don't all gang up at once to tell him, just you break the news. "Hey tony, I've got some bad news... we're gonna try someone else in your spot on the team... there's a guy who's a strong B (or whatever) who looks like he could take us all the way. Sorry man."

Then he'll piss on your wedding cake.

DJP and JAW you both know my opinion:grin:. DJP I heard you were out of town.

Either way give me a call and we can play sometime.

P.S. I'll be at B&C Sunday 11-5.

Well I broke the news to Tony today and everything went very surprizingly well. He said that he didnt think he would be able to play much this year anyway due to work. Thank God. I was dreading the worst. Honesty paid off. Also its sweet that I got a solid replacement that will ensure a good chance to win the regular season. I cant wait :)

Glad thing worked out.

What if he was your best player how would you feel?

If he was our best player he would be so arrogant we would have to do the same. Much of our choice does come down to his lack of skill, he has played maybe three hours of pool since April 16th, I believe.

Oh and things didn't really go all that smooth, I got the brunt end of it
