hi all,

could some give there opinion on the cue's ull see on the picture.

1/ If u'd go PURELY for looks, wich one would u chose?
2/ If u'd go for quality, wich cue has the best quality u think.
3/ if u'd for for looks and quality, wich cue could u chose?
4/ If u'd HAD to buy one of these, wich one would u chose from looks-quality-price
5/ wich cue wouldnt u buy, aka wich is the WORST cue from looks-quality-price

ps: i have a problem, i have this descision dissorder wich makes me go  when i have to chose between different things. ive got it when i order food, when i meet different girls, when i order a cocktail, with everything...

ps2 im adicted to gecko's, lisards, salamanders etc.. (even my wife has this lisard tatoo on her sexy butt :D ) but guess i can always paint one on any cue if i want too. (it kinda my modjo, my signature, my addiction)

ps3 would u advice me just to use the butt for the looks, and add a 314/z shaft? or wich cue dont needs a predator shaft?

As a billiard Dealer that sells all of those cues. I would go with the viking or the Lucasi. The Mcdermott is a good hitting cue but I personally don't like that design.. lol. Anyway, we have had nothing but bad luck with the quaility of those 5280 cues. Only had one out of 10 that either wasn't warped or had major inlay or ferrule flaws. Not to mention they shot like shit. JMO......NBN

Uhhhh.... I want to help you with your survey, but just can't do it. My advice is to save a little more and buy a good custom cue from Ebay. You can snag some great deals on low-end JossWests, Richard Blacks, even Coker or whatever. I just would never recommend the cues you have chosen to any of my pool friends.

Save a little more, buy a little more, and you will be MUCH happier IMO. Name your cue 'Geko' if it makes you feel better, but as far as having one inlaid on the cue... Uhhhh....

well my mind was pritty said on a predator p2 or 4k2.
but that was mostly based on good reviews etc.

i thought the shaft was what made 80% of a cue being good, and not the butt end. (just a crazy idea i woke up in the morning, and im probably wrong..) so i thought to search all the cues i could find, and these are the once i liked the most PURE on design. (I know I KNOW, ive got horible taste.. but ill take every responsabilty. and as im living in europe, the chance of seeing a AZB'er on a tournament and laugh with silly solly is small.. )

nineballnutt: ive checked all cues from 50$ till 3900$ and these are the only once i liked :s. i know they probably play better, but i dont like 99% of the usual inlays, or 'cowboy' design (hope im not offending anyone, its just personal taste), even if its in diamond, gold or whatever. :s these are the ONLY once i liked in looks..

U think even the bad 5280 (i had heared there werent fantastic) with a good shaft wont make a good cue?

billyards : ill probably do so, and maybe even draw a lisard on it ;) i just MUST have one, if u saw my house decoration.... well... ive been collection items with gekko motifs since quit some time. and if my girls butt has one, my cue has to have one too :D nothing a marker cant do :D (or what could i use to make my permanent black gekko logo on it?)

Why does those vikings (wich i LOVE the looks) are so expensive? same price range as predator, but surely u arent paying for the viking name right? ive never seen it mentioned in any "good cue post". they arent filled with expensive inlays etc ( or im a wrong?) so what makes the price of them being so high?

thx for the first reactions.

I also go along with this. Stick to a traditional cue with points and a few inlays.

I love my Viking. I am pretty sure they will make you a gecko if you want them to. Call them and tell them I sent you. This is from their website:

For more than 40 years, we've been creating pool cues that show no mercy. Infinitely straight and perfectly balanced, Viking Cues are ready to take your game to the next level.

Our woods are seasoned for twelve to twenty-four months.
Our unique finger-joint butt construction provides strength and further assures straightness.
A durable ferrule and a pro-tapered shaft promote exceptional shot accuracy.
We offer more than 100 different models -- each one a work of art. It's the painstaking care that we devote to each individual cue that makes Viking supreme.

Just chalk one up and feel the killer instinct of a Viking.

Solartje,

I'd stick to the Vikings or McDermotts. The shaft and the fit of the joint probably do have more to do with how it plays. If you go for the Mcdermott,I'd consider going with one of their Intimidator shafts instead of the Predator. Don't know how hard it is to get the ferrule changed out on a predator over there but here I've heard lots of gripes.

Terry

I just picked up a Lucasi LE27 with the spliced shaft (kinda like a predator shaft), and the cue hits very nicely. If it helps, I have a rack full of cues, Schon/Sigel/Helmstetter/etc, and I choose to play with the Lucasi....Gerry

ok thx for the input guys and girls :)

about the viking, i do LOVE the F07. MAN thats a nice cue. but the site quotes... well i dont even bother reading them. im not into commercial talk, and it dont influences me AT all to buy a cue.

Linda:
I thought I rememberd having my photo taken with you! Thanks for using it as your avatar to remind me!
Nice leg shot there! You still got it, Babe!

Sol: I am telling you, Man: check out Ebay! I look at cues there every day and I see custom cues that are a great value... Spend your hard-earned cash wisely, my friend! Viking might be OK, but (if you are serious about the game) you need AWESOME! (And awesome is available if you look hard enough and are patient.)

Don't take what I'm about to say in a wrong way, please.

Be your own man and make a choice on your own. You'll become a better player because of it.

Everyone has their own tastes... If you like it, buy it. (just don't regret it)

well ill probably just let me build my own cue. Those i like on looks (posted here, arent "awsome", those that are good, i find SO ugly, i'd prefere a barcue look over it.

when u ask a cuemaker to make a custom cue, can u really chose everything from A to Z?
- Any design?
- Any weight, lenght, diameters, tips, feruls, joints, etc etc?

like... could i buy a p2 butt end (those with no inlays, just plain) and have the viking F07 design put on it and a shaft with a lisard design on it?

I dont think ill be changing alot of cue's. ive played my snooker cue from day 1 till the end. as im new to pool, and dont own a cue yet, my playstile is still "virgin", so i can addapt my style pritty easy. no matter how much it deflects, squirts etc etc.

I noticed that all of these cues are essentially one piece forearm type cues with CNC'd inlays. Personally I'd spend more money on quality and go for a good plain cue from say, for instance, Schuler or Huebler. This isn't to say that the cues you picture are all junk. Far from it. McDermott and Viking, to pick two, are very good production cues. I'd stay away from 5280 no matter what.

pawnmon, those plain huebler and shuhler cues look nice.
(well "nice".. :) not something i can fall in love with, but at least the plainer they are, the less things i dont like.). i really dont like points, etc. and the price is very ok. 200-300 for a cue brand new is hard to beat.

but ive got a question:

when u buy cues from one brand, do they all play exactly the same? (same wood, same joints, same tips etc) and is it really ONLY the design that influences the price?

(for example, does a viking F0-10 serie plays just the same as a F50-60 serie cue?)

...

Personally, I don't like any of them and wouldn't buy any of them. Have you considered Eurowest, being in Europe and all?

no, never thought of them. ill go check them out...

anyrone can give me a real reason why NOT to buy the F07 viking. i cant stop dreaming of it :( help me get off my adiction or ill buy it, or let me buy it if its a good cue.

With the choices you posted...

1/ If u'd go PURELY for looks, wich one would u chose?
Apex 03

2/ If u'd go for quality, wich cue has the best quality u think.
F04
3/ if u'd for for looks and quality, wich cue could u chose?
V2U

4/ If u'd HAD to buy one of these, wich one would u chose from looks-quality-price
V2U

5/ wich cue wouldnt u buy, aka wich is the WORST cue from looks-quality-price
Mile High 6

To be honest, everyone is telling you the way it is. All these are considered medium quality cues. They all will play fine. I'm not saying that everyone needs a custom cue, but it is nice having something that no one else has and it many of them do have great feel. Goto ebay and the rest will follow.
