Opinions on Josey Cues?

I don't understand...you have a Josey cue listed as one of your other cues and you're starting a thread about playing with one and what do you think?

If you have one...tell us what YOU think. I'm actually interested since he supposedly makes his cues with a LOT of forward balance...my preference.

Lol... Just got it last night... Was wondering what others thought... I will let ya know when I play more with it...

I traded my Meucci HOF-2 for it str8 up...

I'd have to say that you got WAY the best of that deal!

Mine is a plain birdseye forearm... walnut burl (I think) butt... I will post pics when I get it together...

I traded with a guy I was playing against in a small weekly tourney so I only broke with it and hit with it only a few times...

So far it seems that it has a real solid/firm hit... The joint coupling is very tight similar styled to Schon/Runde... Didn't really pay attention to the balance, but it felt good in my hands...

The verdict is still out, but I like it so far...

Not from me... The Kid (18 yr old) I traded it with wanted something prettier I think... He knew it was a Josey, but he wasnt particularly impressed with it... We traded straight up and I kept my spare snooker shaft (11m) for the HOF-2...

I know i am knew to the site... That does not mean I am a liar...

If you got a Josey for a Meucci, you came out ahead by far. Keith Josey is a fine cuemaker (and yes, out of Savannah). You can visit his website at www.joseycues.com. Shawn Putnam also shoots with a Josey, by the way.

Josey's cues are not only great-hitting cues (as long as you like your cues on the stiff side), they are works of art. His cues are truly the finest I've ever seen. Since I like stiffer hitting cues, Josey is my personal preference. Unfortunately for me, Keith gets top dollar for his cues (deservedly so), and I (actually, my WIFE :D ) can't justify the expense. His cues are definitely at the top of my wish list, though....

Thanks for all the positive comments... I am a beginning collector and so far I have had some luck... The pool room I got the Josey in is the same place I found the Kersenbrock that was being sold as a Franklin Era SW...

In fact I was just going in last night to show off the cue (Pic in Avatar) since I had just recently had it refinished by Laurie Franklin at SW Cues...

That being said I lost $50 gambling since I am such an easy mark... but hey ya gotta play the better players to get better...

I have one on order and will be picking it up at the US Open. I have hit with one and LOVED the hit. I have a pretty fancy one coming (F-04 Amulet 2 design), his work is superb. Looking very forward to it and will post pics when I return from the Open.

Peace, Joe

I really like Josey Cues and The Josey's. Keith dose beautiful work and from what I have heard they play well.

I'm actually not as crazy about the way the cue looks (I'm boring and like more traditional looking cues). But the cue plays really good - it's my main weapon of choice right now.

I have had a couple of Josey cues before. I think they are very solid hitting cues. As far as the price goes, you cannot go wrong with his sneaky pete.
With regard to being front balance, I am not too sure if it is really THAT front balance. I think my Layani cue and my Lambros are more forward balance and also hit stiffer than my Josey. I think Josey has a may be 9 or 10" taper. But sometimes, too front balance or too stiff is not a desirable trait depending on your game. I have only tried his cues with the radial pin. I am not sure about the hit or the balance with his piloted joint.
The Josey cues I had were very solid and very well balanced for me. It was very easy to get used to. He is a very nice person to deal with, and his inlay works are really amazing.
The Layani cue which I have been using for quite some time now has a slimmer butt than the Josey. I have small hand and I prefer a slimmer butt, it is just my own personal preference.
I prefer an uncored ebony forearm. That is what I have on my Layani cue. Josey can do it either way, cored or uncored.
Josey does beautiful lizard skin wrap and he uses a lot of hollywood as his inlays. If you want to spend less than $1000 and get the hit of a Josey, I would highly recommend his sneaky pete.

A couple years ago up in Chicago at a trade show and Tournament a number of cuemakers had booths. Although very few custom cues were sold that week Josey sold a plain "Merry Widow" cue for 11 or 1200.00 that had the most unique and beautiful piece of wood that I have ever seen. It was quilted maple and the finish looked 3" deep. If I live to be a hundred that cue will stand out in my mind.

I had Keith Josey make me a plain Cocobolo cue with a Lizard wrap last winter. He guessed it would be ready late May, and I got it mid-May! Three weeks after I got it, an airline "lost" it in Chicago. I filed a claim and finally got the money a few weeks ago.

So the real test of what I thought of the Josey is what I did with the money, right? I just ordered another Josey, the exact same cue I had.

Keith and Sherri are a pleasure to deal with.

What did you have to trade, to get the Kersenbrock? A Cuetec? ;)

Tracy

A friend of mine had two Josey's one was a fancy purpleheart sneaky pete that played absolutely jam-up and (he sold it  ) and bought a fancy ebony sneaky pete right from Josey. I didn't think the cue hit as well as the purpleheart but stilled played very solid/stiff and consistent. The joint screwed together very tight on both the cues.

BJ Ussery just got a new one a month or so back. It is stunning and plays as good as it looks. I feel sorry for the person that got the meucci, butt heavy and wimpy shaft..What a deal.
There is one born every minute..

Funny, no I paid cash money for the kersenbrock... When I get my collection together I will send pics of all my cues together...

Basically I am waiting for the Scruggs to come from an Ebay auction to post them all... I should have it Wednesday. I need to buy my own digital camera as I have to go to a friends house to take all the pics...

My father has played with a SW for years and he compares all cues he tries to it. He recently traded for a high end Josey and after playing with it a couple of times he loves it. It does not play quite like the SW but overall he says the hit and feel are exceptional.
