It's actually much higher deflection if it's brass. To play a good trick on your friends, have one made of osmium or depleted uranium.
Chalk is much cheaper but you can't gold plate it very well.
I'll stick with a piece of chalk then. Plus this gizmo looks like it would be harder to cheat with than a piece of chalk. I don't see the advantage to using it.
Yes, a huge advantage of chalk is that you can put the ball back on the other side. Make sure you are standing between your opponent and the ball when you do this because he might remember the placement.:groucho:
But seriously, a disadvantage of chalk is that it's possible to forget which side you used. A way to avoid that is to always place the bottom of the chalk towards the ball.
