Ortmann-Hall of Fame

You think this is a game, tit for tat, on this thread?

I don't see a need to explain anything to somebody who is trying to insult me and mine on this thread.

You have no desire to have a productive colloquy on here. Rather, you want to make up crap, twist words, and espouse nasty comments about players you know nothing about, changing the direction of this thread into something that it should not be.

I will continue this dialogue with you in person sine die. We'll see who will be "playing the victim" then.

JAM

You don't have to explain anything its clear for all to see. You attacked me twice I responded and you cry foul.

Like I said you want the first 2 attacks and the last 10!

Stop attacking me in threads that I'm not involved in and this won't happen anymore.

Like I said when I ignored your previous attempt to ruin SJMs fine update thread. It's in the interest of the forum. I will try to ignore your attacks but there is a limit.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Looks like you are digging for clams. This kind of dialogue is ridiculous. I guess you find it entertaining.

You are the same age as my daughter, and I've been on this earth a lot longer than you. I picked up my first pool cue when you were still an itch in your father's pants. Fate has a funny way of taking care of things. I can rejoice in knowing you will someday face a sad reality. Meanwhile, enjoy the ride while it lasts. When you hit my age, you'll be smacked in the face hard, if not sooner.

Nasty words indeed, true colors?

You don't know what I mean, even though I copied your own words just two pages ago, surely not?

Let me spell it out again for you:

1) You attack me in this thread, I ignore you
2) You attack me again
3) I defend myself
4) U blame me for attacking you!

You either have a very poor memory or it's just not possible for you to hide from the truth in this instance.

Like I said I don't like trolls and I don't like racists.

I posted previously, and I still believe, that the European style of play is "disgusting." I do not enjoy watching Buckingham Guard personalities in the pit. I do enjoy a different style of pool and do not like seeing emotionless robots on TV representing pool as a sport, even if these emotionless robots are champions. Pick that opinion apart now. Make sure you highlight it in red and in bold lettering.

JAM

Johnny Archer is SO funny to watch.... A lots of emotions between shots, and he shots like a machine gun. Nothing like a robot at all! ;)

All the Americans are the best to watch, no doubt. Not one of them are boring players! Man, if there was only those funny Americans playing pool...

I never stated all European players' style of play is disgusting. The majority of them that I have seen on television have a tableside demeanor which is not one which I desire to see, and I am of the opinion that this exhibition of pool does not help to attract new interest in the sport, which is why I had originally made the comment. Hope you enjoy this type of thread. Not only are some European players' style of play disgusting, but so are some Europeans' style of posting.

Tag team is fun, isn't it?

JAM

Can I be a smart-ass too?

Asian talking here, can 2nd and 3rd ranked pool groups go to their own corner for a moment?

I will just replace European with American here...

Come up with your own quips, and don't copy my style. You and your tag team buddy are two peas in a pod.

BTW, don't ever PM me again and ask me to do you a favor for one of your countrymen. You are not on my birthday cake list, in case you haven't figured it out. I won't ever again waste my time trying to be nice to a Norwegian lutefisk.

I have never thought I was on your birthday cake list, and I never knew that was a criteria for sending PM's to you...

I promise never to ask you a favor again, though you were very kind one year ago helping the 16-year old Norwegian trying to find a place in Washington where he could practise pool.

However, you are very welcome to send a PM to me if there's anything you think I might be able to help you with, even though you call me names on this forum... As I have said earlier, I think you are a smart woman and I like most of your posts, but on this issue you're just on another planet than me.

By the way, you've generalized about the "boring" European players, and you've said that Europeans are disgusting. So as an European I have the right to be offended, and to defend the continent I'm living on. Because of your generalization I brought up Johnny Archer's way of playing, trying to be ironic about the American way of playing.

At last: Is the Norwegian Lutefisk comment a generalization of all Norwegians, or just me?

That was YOU, I never said his name although you have posted my name several times. You mentioned your boyfriend and I defending myself as I thought it was relevant.

You do an excellent impression!

I do owe you an apology though, I said you wanted the first 2 attacks and the last 10, I left the thread but I see you only wanted the last 3. So I did overshoot a little bit there for which Im deeply sorry, I wouldn't want to mislabel you.

This is exactly what I wanted when I started this thread. I haven't even read all the 200+ post, but I know it went in a different direction somewhere down the line.

Back to topic:

For me, Oliver Ortmann sure belongs into the Hall of Fame as 2 time Straight Pool World Champion in seperate decades. He also took a 9 Ball Title if I am not mistaken and countless European titles. He headed the Mosconi Cup Team, Won the Challenge of Champions etc.

and before you flame me...Yes I am German/European and Yes I sure root for my peers.... :-)

As for the discussion wheter or not European players styles suck or not and wheter the real value of a Eurotour win is adequate to whatsoever US tournament... and all of this bashing around it.... The results of the discussed players speak for themselfs! Period. The overall competition in pool has become much harder in the last 10-15 years. We Germans are still happy to be amongst the top nations of pool title wise... but this did not come out of thin air or luck. If a nation with 40 thousand organized pool players produces 3 World Champions in the last 10-15 years(Hohmann, Soquet,Ortmann) and a lot more top contenders in comparison to a nation that has 10 times as much listed pool players (yes .. the US) than it clearly shows, that the promotion of young talents, and therefore the system still has a lot room for improvement.

Look out for the Asians. The are going to produce even more world beaters on a regular basis...why? Because they are disciplined (training) and organized and all pull on the same rope ...

just my 0,02$

I have to agree about his credentials, even if you try and poo poo his Euro record he still has 2 world titles, 2 US Opens, and 2 Challenge of Champ wins.

I'm no Oliver cheerleader but I recognise a great record when I see one. There are some legendary players that have never won a world title or US Open, has Parica?

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, I praise her.
Thru the years, they have come from abroad.
From the Olivers to the Efrens,
nowhere else can they cash so high.
God bless America, where pool is beloved.

Hi JAM,

*lol that I call a great statement ...

Seriously, I admire your love for your country honestly. As beeing a German one is not alloud to say loud here being proud of it, because of our nations past.

You will see, once the sport will offer more money in other countries, the players will move there too. It really don't think that we are far away from a real professional tour with decent money (not IPT high) somewhere in Asia. Then we will see fairly quick, how many players will take the trip....

Please give Keith our regards..

I skipped most of my History -classes, but if I remember it correctly, 'Americans' came to America from Europe.

If we go little bit further, we all originate from central Africa.

Even the REAL 'americans'.

It is amazing to me how many e-mails, PMs, and other niceties I have received in reference to this thread, some from lurkers and some from veterans posters on this forum.

To Markus, I know exactly where you are coming from, and you and I will always be friends. I like your style! :)

I enjoy engaging in a productive colloquy about a variety of pool topics. Some folks are, to put it bluntly, jealous and have no other way to vent other than creating negativity due to their inferiority in some circles. I am not just speaking about international posters, but some Americans as well. Let me just cap it by saying this. Don't always judge a book by its cover, and I will just leave it at that. There will be some readers of this thread who will catch my drift! ;)

To Marvel, I'm part Native American, and we were here first! :D
